Mine does the same, 96 TDi, I've got use to the sound now.

Does anyone know if the fuel tanks are fitted with baffles ?.

There are moulded baffles within.

It is just a "design feature"

hi carney.. it does sound like a 'design feature'!! i seem to recall a similar problem with the peugot 805? mpv a few years ago. manufacturers eventually admitted to the fault claiming it was a 'feature' of the car!! don't know if tank baffles fitted

Hello,

as far as I know is it a desiign problem. The tank is big (70l) and has the smal side pointing to the front. Other cars have the long side pointing to the front. The shape of the tank is like a cigarre. If you fill it completly up air and fuel will swap from front to back and make this knocking noise.

The tank supplier tried to build up a repair kit for the series tank. I understood that this is very expencive and does not do the trick over the life time.

I hope this information helps you. Ask the dealer for the repair kit. This are flaps. I do not know how they are fitted.

Regards from Germany
