Sadly I had to let go of my 2.8 V6 Galaxy due to not owing my own oil well and have spent the last 6 months in purgatory driving a 2.7 TDI Ford Maverick, major culture shock  . Well enough is enough and we have decided to go back to our beloved Galaxies, but which one?. We need a diesel as we tow a caravan and after searching the site I have discovered that this should be at least 110bhp if possible, what year do the mark 2 115bhp start at?. Are there any other pointers anyone could give me please, we will have a budget of

i think if you look hard enough, you could get a MKII X reg (new shape) 115 diesel.

have a look on Autotrader to give you an idea

i think you will be able to find a good one for

Thanks very much for the replies, how would you define high mileage 80,000, 100,000? would this put you off?. Matt we've seen that one on Autotrader it looks rather nice I could certainly live with one like that, mind you after the Maverick a wheelbarrow looks good :) (no offence meant to other Maverick owners I just couldn't take to it  ).

Thanks Donna :D

well, i would prefer the lowest mileage possible, but i think it depends on how the mileage has been accumulated, i.e, short runs to work (where the working parts don't have time to warm up) or long motorway runs, where the parts all warm up and function properly. i also look for how good of a condition the car is in (inside & out) this gives me an idea on how its been looked after and the owner. i would never touch a car that has not got a service history, and i would check any detail on any repairs, simply try and make sure the car is in good condition. and on the test drive, i would give it a good test, listening for any dodgy noises.

...but to answer your question directly, i would happily buy one Diesel or petrol that's done up to 50 thousand miles. if it had done more than that i would more than likely go for a diesel that's done up to 70/80 thousand, and i would check, and get the AA to check that its in good working order, and check its service history/repairs and so on.

...but then some people will happily buy a diesel that's done 200,000 - its up to you.

Thanks very much for the replies Matt we'll be looking very carefully and hopefully find something suitable. Thanks again (still don't know where the scuttle drain is though  )

Donna

Ps. Just had a thought, if we were lucky enough to find a mk2 115bhp what is the special oil needed and where do you get it from?

Thanks

if you do a search you will find out what oil and where the scuttle drains are, i can't remember them two - getting older.
