Guest Matrix Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005  Hi folks I'm new to the galaxy so I have a quick question for ya. We've just bought a 2001 Ghia 1.9tdi (115) Auto Do we have a chain or belt cam shaft? She has 77,000 miles on her but she also has a Full Ford Service history as shes an ex rep car - Everything works on her and she sounds nice and quiet under the bonnet. Thanks in advance Matrix Quote
HJT Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 Belt and should be changed every 40,000 miles Howard Quote
italiastar Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 Apparently the newer 2003 + models need a belt change at 60,000 / 6years - if the car lasts that long! Quote
Ivor Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 I had mine changed at 50,000 when it should have been done at 40,000 coz the poxy dealer I used to go to never told me. It was only by reading this forum I thought oh s*it and rang a dealer also recommended by a forum member to get it sorted. They said off my VIN it should have been done at 40,000. Anyway, it did 10,000 over so don't worry too much, get it done asap after 80,000. Quote
paulmpaciorek Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 Has anyone had first hand experience of a cambelt failing between 40k and 60k ??? Paul Quote
Guest Matrix Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 What sort of prices would I expect to pay for this job? Would it have to be main dealer?? Quote
norwichbluenose Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 try a ford specialist not fraud themselves my Cam belt with tensioners cost 208 including vat Quote
Guest Matrix Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Cheers for that guys Just as a matter of interest We've only just bought this car - And we where told that it had a "full service" before we picked it up - When I've spoken to salesman he says that if it was due to be changed then it should have been - He's checking with his engineers and letting me know - Hopefully ifnot they will sort for me. Cheer for the info. MAtrix Quote
HJT Posted July 26, 2005 Report Posted July 26, 2005 If they say it has, ask for that in writing so if it hasn't and the belt snaps, taking your engine with it, you can claim from the garage. They won't have a problem with that if they have really done the belt change. Howard Quote
