Hi guys, A little hard to explain this one but here goes --- On the initial start up of the engine wether first thing in morning or night, after a long run or even after a short 10 min journey, sometimes when I press the brake to move from P to D it wont let me, normally the only way I can get it to move is to pump the brake pedal 5 to 10 times then the solinoid clicks and I can select gear, then every thing is fine until I turn engine off, then it may or may not start all over again, sometimes I get it once a day, or not at all or I might get it several times a day, it always happen with an engine start up. Hope you guys can help cheers

Hello

Are you saying you always get it with engine startup because thats the only time you are in P? According to the haynes manual, the solenoid that locks the selector stick needs functioning brake lites to works. It could be a dicky brake light switch. Do you hear the clicking of the solenoid during normal driving when braking?

I suppose it could also be a sticky solenoid. You coul dhave a look to see it it's got crap on it.

Hope this gives you a few ideas

It does not happen all the time just occasional, and yes only with an engine start up, selecting P at traffic lights or a traffic jam does not cause any problems as long as the engine is running and the brake light test thing on the dash do not go out when it happens, you could be very right about the brake switch cheers I will let you know how i get on
