Early 2.0l Twin Cam Petrol

im thinking of buying an early galaxy (n) with a twin cam 2.0l petrol engine,but the big ends gone. Im told this engine is hard to come by as engine codes need to match the ecu settings, is it worth the bother, any other ways of getting round it. was there any problems with the engine management system on these early cars.thanks
