Guest smudge.g Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 On the same subject but the other way around..... I have a LHD galaxy that I am hoping to bring back to Blighty in the autumn. Obviously it is fitted with continental headlights but my question is this - Will i have to have the continental lights swapped for UK spec upon my return or does the lights fitted allow some kind of adjustment to move the beam the other way???If not, are replacement headlights (pre-2000 style) expensive?? and how about a dashboard that only reads in kph instead of mph? (just trying to weigh up whether it is gonna cost me a packet to bring up to UK spec for MOT or whether best leaving it here in europe! ) Quote
Andrew T Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 Yes, to pass an MOT you will need to change the headlights to ones which dip to the other side. Speedo must display MPH, does it show MPH on an inner scale as ours show KMH ? If not some Japananese imports use a scale stuck onto the speedo glass which I presume must be OK. Quote

I beg to differ, the speedometer is not a tested item. EDIT: Just checked my MOT Testers' Handbook and found this: Right hand dip headlamps can be temporarily altered for use in the UK by fitting masks or converter kits which remove the beam 'kick-up' to the right. A headlamp altered in this way is not a reason for rejection, if a. the headlamp aim is not rejected for the reasons listed under diagram 1 (except that the top of the beam image will be a straight line) b. the light output is not undulyreduced - not usually a problem with commercially produced kits c. the mask or converter is securely attached Edited July 27, 2005 by Masked Marauder Quote
TinTentTourist Posted August 7, 2005 Author Report Posted August 7, 2005 THE ANSWER........ is simple. I bought a set of beam deflectors from Halfords for Quote
sasquartch Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 Can anyone with a TIS disk post the image for the position of the deflectors. Many thanks Quote

sasquartch Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 Many thanks MM This will be the first big trip for me in the Gal (bought it in March this year) so I'm interested to see how it performs re fuel consumption etc. I'll keep you all posted - thanks again. Quote
sasquartch Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 Got to France and back no problems - Gal was packed with 2 adults, 3 kids and loads of luggage.Over 1000 miles got about 40mpg, that was a combinatiion of about 85mph steady on motorways (French motorways seem much hillier !) and quite a bit of local roads, with some slower cruising at abou 70mph on way home as was much too early for ferry. Would recommend Speedferries.com - ran on time, absolutely no problems. Oh, and headlamp masking seemed to work fine, didn't really notice any significant loss of brightness. Quote
dtc333 Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 The print out from the TIS - which I guess is what the dealer supplied you with - is fiddly but works. You've basically got to re-scale it on a photocopier to get it to the correct size. The TIS includes a diagram which shows quite clearly where the various bits need blacking out. Without that you would just be guessing - did they supply it? My understanding is that 'euro' style plates will get you anywhere in the EU without the legal requirement for a GB plate. Is this the print out> ;) http://www.btinternet.com/~aislinghouse/ford/TSB00087.pdf Quote
nick wood Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 If it is any help I used the deflectors from Halfords, easy to fit & they even got me through the Spanish eqivalent of the mot as I put my Galaxy on Spanish plates. Urban rumor has it that in the main tourist season the French Police stop as many UK vehicles as can near the channel ports to see if you have everything you need, if not welcome heavy fine. I drove across last September to Mallorca & didn't even get looked at.In Mallorca the police set up major road checks to see if you have everything, the strange thing there though is they only stop Spanish registered cars, not UK, as they dont want the hassle. Figure that! Enjoy Nick Quote
suzuki91 Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 i also went to france l week ago, 4 adults, luggage, and a windsurfer on the roofrack, got 41mpg. did not bother with the lights as i drove during the day.did have the vests for all occupants and bulbs though. if anyone wants to see what i got up to look at youtube dune d'pyla. paragliding. antzatgalaxy Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 (edited) DTC333's Print out from the TIS is correct, but doesn't contain the attachments. They don't need scaling, just printed at 100% and cut out to use. I'll see if I can create a PDF from the TIS of the attachments. I'll add them later. In the mean time, here are some pretty pictures that will serve no purpose other than a check. You can use cheap insulation tape for the job, it will come off no problem, you can even save them if you create them with enough overlap of tape. Any glue marks, will wipe off with soap, water and not much elbow grease. Interestingly, they don't match the parts covered by the so called generic Eurolites masks (circular masks [with tail - not used on Galaxy], with instruction for every car under the sun) sold all over the place (mine were marked autocare TMX244). So I guess these generic ones are not suitable! I also have no idea why parts of the main beam appear to be masked from the TIS instruction. In any case, I can confirm that the beam pattern with the TIS mask is good and better and brighter (less covered) than the generic ones sold.Anthony Edited January 3, 2012 by antzatgalaxy Quote
