I would like to upgrade the bulbs on my 2002 2.3, main & dip and was trying to find out what the max watts I can go to before melting bits. Any ideas?

Unless you can find out from Ford or the lamp manufacturers, I think it will be down to experimentation!

I think there is also a legal limit for lamp power - do you want to keep within this?

Haven't checked if dipped beams stay on when main beam selected - if they do, then higher wattage dipped beam will be OK so long as they go off wehn main beam used - in which case it may be better to stick with original lamps; don't you find the original lamps OK? They're better than on my previous 2 cars.

If the lens-covers on the face-lifted Galaxy are plastic, is it a good idea fitting higher wattage bulbs?

I've seen Mondeos with discoloured, yellow-ish, headlights as a result of fitting the wrong wattage bulbs - though they have a plastic lens inside the headlight.

I have both a galaxy and a mondeo and yes the mondeo lens,s have both gone yellow. this is due to U/v and heat ageing the plastic, but it is a stupid idea putting plastic in so close to the light source

I believe the wattage of lights are quite closely governed now, ages ago you use to be able to fit rally wattage's, [like 90 watt mains], not any more.

Also the wire gauge in modern cars, with everything cut to the bone, may not take the extra current without getting hot.

I just fitted the brightest available lights [super bright + 50% from standard]

Got them from http://www.powerbulbs.com/index.htm with a free set of side lights and cheaper than Halfords.

The light output will deteriorate as bulbs age so new ones will look brighter any way
