cowman1964 Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 Hi, Have'nt posted here for ages, but last time I did I got some useful info.I have a 1999 Galaxy, which has an aircon problem -not another I hear you say!I have taken it to 2 garages Seat and Ford, who have had it for a day and cannot find the problem, 2 moter electricians who cant find the problem and 2 mobile air con people again who can find the problem. My conundrum: I have gas, the condenser works, the switch lights come on, I have replaced the "blue" box at the front of the engine, all fuses are OK clutch engages if wired directly, what else is there I can check? somebody did say there are 2 switched on the pipes one for high and one for low pressure, if so where are they? has any body got any suggestions (clean please). :) Quote
sad_git Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 Refrigerant triple pressure switch is one unit which has high and low pressure switches. It is located ontop of the receiver drier which is under the o/s/f inner wing. I had a problem with mine and found access to the wiring plug easier from the top by removing the headlamp. Low pressure side of switch:- You should have 12v at pins 1 and 2 with a/c on (engine running), if the switch is faulty only pin 1 will be live. In this case the switch is registering low system pressure and will disable a/c. High pressure side:- If the switch is registering high system pressure pins 3 and 4 will be live and the cooling fan should be on high speed. If the cooling fan is not working the system will quickly over pressure and cut out. Hope this helps Quote
Rallim Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 I don't know if it is applicable to your 99 Gal, but on my 2001 Sharan I had a similar problem, gassed up, A/C light came on but the compressor would not engage. The problem was the outside air temperature sensor had gone duff (used to prevent the system turning on if its too cold). There are two, one for the displayed outside air temp and the other for the air con, located near the fog light aperature in the bumper. I am unsure which sensor is which, I think the sensor on the offside is the air-con air temperature sensor. Gordon. Quote
