Guest grommet Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 I have a 5 speed interior fan. This works OK on the higher speeds, but no longer works on the slower two. I have read that this is a resistor burnout problem, in the "resistor block", with two of the wirewound resistors going open circuit. Has anyone else had this problem and repaired it? How do I get to the faulty resistors without damaging the front fascia, where do I start? Thanks. (It's very noisy on fan speed 3 - can't hear the radio!)My local garage say it is a time-consuming job, and the new part is over Quote
Masked Marauder Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 One of the other users of the board has carried out a repair to the resistor pack using 3rd party resistors, whilst it is still "work in progress" his input is on this thread Quote
Buncers Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 Not sure if it's the same on your model. Mine's a 96 1.9tdi glx. But I got to the resistor pack by removing the lower glove box. Drop it open then pull upwards. The resistor pack is to the right of the blower fan assembly. I think you need a torx screwdrivers to remove. I replaced mine, but I also found that some of the connectors were burnt out. Quote
