Dashboard Lights

I have a 2.3 glx R reg Galaxy. Recently the dash lights on the clock cowling stopped working, when I switch the lights on, the dash lights flash once and thats it!

I went to my local Ford dealer who after 25mins of scratching their collective heads decided that I should book the car for them to investigate...that ain,t gonna happen!...I assume that the switch unit is at fault, maybe the dimmer wheel?

If so, can I replace just the dimmer or does the whole light switch unit have to be replaced?

The only single item on the switch is the range adjuster. The dimmer is integral to the switch.
