Air Conditioning Costs And Fuel

hello i have a 2.3glx can any 1 advise me of how much more fuel i would use with a/c on as my mates say it uses loads more ? im curently doing 140 miles to

I have a 2.3 auto and I average about 25mpg urban with the a/c on.

It will prolly use 10-12% more fuel with aircon always on in the summer.

Apparently the compressor takes 6-8 bhp from the engine as well!

I did read a report once that stated there is as much extra fuel used driving with your windows down as is used having the aircon on.

 

This is an argument that will run and run with no definitive answer.

 

Unless you could drive exactly the same route under exactly the same conditions with and without the aircon on there is no real way of knowing.

 

My point of view is who cares! for the extra 10% fuel I am supposedly going to use I would rather be cool than save money and be hot and uncomfortable.

It's easy, you will be so much more relaxed with aircon on, your driving won't be as aggresive. To aid the situation further, drive as if your brakes arn't working, aircon uses a lot less than using the brake pedal.
