ooo err....never seen any filter that tight that a screwdriver wouldnt budge!

Without looking at whats left its difficult to give advice. A CHISEL IS NOT RECOMMENDED! As MM says are you sure you've be trying to turn the correct way (Anticlockwise looking up from underneath the engine)

Can you give a fuller description of whats left? A photo? You need to spin the collar at the top of the filter, the centre of this is the screw on bit.

When you come to fitting a new filter, then provided a filter is fitted correctly, it should come off using two hands. Smear gasket with oil, spin on until the gaskey *just* mates with housing face, then tighten just one third turn extra. Check for leaks after filling/running.

A lot of OEM filter have a socket or screwdriver attachment welded to the bottom of the can for easy peasy removal.

I had guessed that all that was left was the top of the filter. If that is the case he will need to carefully use a chisle on the edge, I can see no other way.

Hi all, when trying to remove filter i turned in right direction. All thats left of the filter is the top collar, have decided to wait until weekend and remove the housing which should make it easier to remove, will let you know how i get on. Many thanks for your help, Ian

If you can get your hands on 1 a screw extractor would do the job m8, we use them on largish bolts and they work great, I am guessing the bore size is close to 1/2 bsp which might be a bit big for a screw extractor but worth asking around m8. You just tap in slightly with hammer and then undo with a spanner as you turn to unscrew they bite harder into the outer :).

Good luck

Simon
