Guest MATT Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 hi,a (not so) local garage has advertised in a paper a 2.8 v6 MANUAL? transmission galaxy!,is there such a model?or is it a misprint,I thought all the 2.8 v6's were automatic? i cant see why they would only have automatics, especially as some people don't like them (don't know why), i think VR6Galaxy has a v6 manual, not sure though. As for the avatar, it seems to be stuck in 'warm up' mode? must have Duracell batteries - know what a mean  MATT http://www.nonsoloblog.com/upload/duracell.gif Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 My other half has a rabbit that runs on Duracell batteries, but it looks nothing like that! Quote
dipsomaniac Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 Sharan has a 2.8 V6 manual. Don't know what her boyfriend drives. Quote

Guest marcusheawood Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 I have a VR6 manual, it is more economical and quicker. Quote
Guest marcusheawood Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 ...so; yes, of course there's such a thing. Quote
Guest MATT Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 and quicker. ...how come it is quicker? MATT Quote
Guest marcusheawood Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 Manual gearbox is worth about a second 0-60, even better during overtaking. Tops out at an indicated 135 Mph. Picks up an extra 3 Mpg as well. If this is a technically baited question, then I've not really answered it. But anyway torque converters...blah blah blah...kickdown delay blah blah blah, increased mechanical losses blah blah blah...etc etc ad nauseum. Quote
gregers Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 mm sounds like ur missis is a bit 'RAMPANT' :) Quote

But anyway torque converters...blah blah blah...kickdown delay blah blah blah, increased mechanical losses blah blah blah...etc etc ad nauseum. :)You would think so wouldn't you, but look at this data from the Ford specs, in particular the 31-60 figures. In that band the auto's seem to be a lot quicker. The far right column is 31-60 acceleration by the way, the headings don't appear on the link for some reason. Quote
Guest marcusheawood Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 Errrr.... Ok denis, a couple of points occur to me which explain the absurd difference: 1) The Manual car is trying to do it in FIFTH gear; fully de-clutched and in a straight pull from (very) low engine speed, probably not much more than tickover. 2) The Auto car has kicked down to FOURTH gear and the torque converter is slipping and allowing the engine to rev into the meat of the torque curve. This is the main reason why auto cars are thirstier than manual cars, because in most driving situations the average engine speed of an auto is higher (modern five speed autos are much better than the old rubbish though, until you have to get it fixed!). Voila! Hardly a fair comparison really. Any muppet who tries to overtake in top gear (I know it's a six speeder, but that's an overdrive) from 31 mph in hurry needs a checkup from the neckup! :) Quote
Andrew T Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 In the last series of Top Gear they showed how a Fiat Stilo Estate was "quicker" from 60mph in fifth gear than a Mitsubishi Evo. 30-70 through the gears is the best measure of performance as it illustrates real world overtaking ability. Guest MATT Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 In the last series of Top Gear they showed how a Fiat Stilo Estate was "quicker" from 60mph in fifth gear than a Mitsubishi Evo. i thought that was a fix, a 1.6 fiat Vs 2.0 turbo Evo? - its funny, because when he was racing it on the track, it seemed to accelerate a lot faster then, it has too larger of a turbo, and so he needed to drop a gear to get the revs, which gets that big turbo spinning, which results in loads of power, if he wanted, he could of beat the living day lights out of that fiat.
