Guest stevebm1 Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 whilst driving back from the airport today my 2.8 v6 auto galaxy decided to stick at 5000 rpm and would not change into high gear.any ideas folks?,is it just the fluid level or is it knackered? Quote
chromedome Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 I had this problem on my other 2.3. Turned out to be the electronic gearbox controller. You could try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to see if it resets. Quote
Guest stevebm1 Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 was this expensive to fix?,is it a diy job or garage? Quote
GSMGuy Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 Replacement of the ECU is an easy swap job, but they aren't cheap.. Quote
Guest stevebm1 Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 could I just get one from my local scrapyard?,where is it located on the vehicle? Quote
dipsomaniac Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 You need to diagnose the fault as changing the PCM is an expensive business. It is located on the righthand side of the engine compartment near the battery. I would start with a gearbox service by a autobox specialist. They will check the fluid level, read any fault codes and test drive. You should have change from Quote
GSMGuy Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 Disomaniac, the PCM is located behind the dash.. The auto Box Ecu is located on the NS inner wing, next to the battery. It's more likely to be the Jatco ECU (box) than anything else.. I know someone who has a fully tested one of these, and may sell it if asked... Would need to know the part no of the faulty one though, as there are a couple of variants. Mike Quote
Guest stevebm1 Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 could this be clutch slip?,can this be cured by topping up the fluid? Quote
classic Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 Hi new to the forum but thought i should let you all no that Fords do not change the oil nor the oil filter in any autobox.Come to that not many makers do and yet it says it is ment to be changed,on most auto's every 24,000 miles. So if you start to get slipping in gears dont just top the fluid up make sure you change the filter, very simple job should only take about 20 mins.If you have had a major service make sure they have changed the auto box filter as you are charged for it.Even the parts department at my local Fords did not no wot it looked like,SO CHECK ITS BEEN DONE or it will be exspencive when you have to have a new gearbox. :D Quote
