degens Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 I have a 1996 2.8V6 which I understand has the Ford EEC IV Engine Management Unit. Having read a lot of information from the web it would appear I can read the fault codes from this by connecting to a 3 Pin plug. Does anyone have an idea where this is as I can't seem to find it. I have found a large plug under the ashtray in the central console but I don't know if this is related or what pins to use. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Phil. Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 It's not Ford. If it were, it would be EEC V, EEC IV died in 1990. It is Bosch ME 7.1 You need VAG tool or Ford WDS. Quote
degens Posted June 25, 2003 Author Report Posted June 25, 2003 I thought that the EEC IV was not in use in 1996 but it was the Ford Dealer's Microcat Parts system that said it was an EEC IV. If it is the Bosch then does this use the OBD-II system - which would explain the connector in the ashtray. Thanks Phil. Quote
Guest VW Infiltrator Posted June 30, 2003 Report Posted June 30, 2003 I've just bought an interface to connect to the OBD II socket so that i can interogate our Sharan's computer with VAG-Com on my PC. I only got it last week but is seems to work well, and I've already checked our air-con fault. As the 2.8 Galaxy uses a VW engine i think that you should be able to use all the functionality of VAG-Com. From earlier posts it seems that VAG-Com will still work on Ford engined Galaxys but for the engine side of things. Richard Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted June 30, 2003 Report Posted June 30, 2003 Richard, which "package" did you get? Quote
Guest VW Infiltrator Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 I only have the shareware version of VAG-Com at the moment; I downloaded it from the Ross-Tech site. I purchased the interface from http://www.skpang.co.uk/. Overall cost is just over Quote
degens Posted July 1, 2003 Author Report Posted July 1, 2003 Richard Thanks for the advice. I downloaded the software last night to have a look but I was getting strange results on the screen. Things didn't seem to line up correctly. What operating system and screen resolution do you use. I am assuming you are using the shareware version of the software - have you noticed any significant limitations. I am only really concerned with checking fault codes. Cheers Phil. Quote
Guest VW Infiltrator Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 I'm using 800x600 on Windows 2000. The fault codes are found OK, but as it is shareware it gives you the code only and not a description of the fault (so you then need a workshop manual to check what it means). Also, with the full version you can scan all elements in one hit to find all faults. With the shareware you have to access each module and scan that individually. I'll no doubt find other limitations over time, but i'm happy for now. Richard Quote
