italiastar Posted July 24, 2005 Author Report Posted July 24, 2005 I did actually suggest that I carried out the work, myself in their workshop whilst their "technician" supervised me - adding that they might learn how to do the job properly! I said that was was even willing to pay the full price for the service under such conditions as all I was really paying for was the stamp in the book - as you can imagine - that went down like a lead balloon. If it's any consulation, there was a bin full of oil filters next to the waste oil tank - only cannisters though, no innards like the TDI ones. Quote
tim-spam Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Now my warranty's expired (nearly), I am doing all of my own servicing. Up until I serviced it (at 60,000 miles), the oil consumption was around 1/2 litre per 1500 - 2000 miles. Since I serviced it using Castrol TXT 505.01 (fully synthetic, bought in France), the oil level has not fallen at all in 1200 miles. It says in the handbook that using a fully synthetic oil reduces oil consumption, and this appears to be true, although I would have thought that the VAG PD oil used during the warranty period at Quote

Masked Marauder Posted July 26, 2005 Report Posted July 26, 2005 One oil drum contained Quantum PD oil. When I challanged the service manager he said it was not for PD engines... He finally admitted that this was PD oil and that he was not aware from where it was supplied from. He asked me to believe thim that he was not aware of this drum. I'm not annoyed that they used quantum PD oil, what annoys me is that they *hagged me for the cost of "highly expensive" VW oil and did not invoice or charge me for Quantum. I have a can of "Quantum Synta" right here in front of me, it's not Quantum PD. but it is the same Quantum. On the label on the back it says "Quantum is a registered trademark of VOLKSWAGEN Group United Kingdom Limited" Perhaps the manager should learn hypnotism. "Look into my eyes, into my eyes, not around my eyes. You will believe me that I don't have any knowledge of that oil. Three, two, one, your back in the room......" Quote
Masked Marauder Posted July 26, 2005 Report Posted July 26, 2005 from the German Swedish & French online shop: http://www.bigtrucker.co.uk/gifs/gsfoil.gif The number in the left hand column is the GSF part number and prices are + VAT. Quote
Rallim Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 I used my local independent garage to service mine, with cam belt change as it had done 75k. I bought the GSF Quantum PD oil and told the garage I would supply the oil, it was reassuring when the garage guy checked I had bought the correct oil for the car. Job done, I'm now Quote
Guest gritrash Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 Just had 2nd service - 20k. Quoted and charged Quote
Guest mick Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 My TDi will be in the garage (serviced - don't think thats the correct word) next Tuesday having completed 20k. They have also been tasked with checking the links, as there is the tell-tale noise from the suspension. So, this weekend the tasks are to:... Remove wheel centre caps... Top up washer fluid to max... Remove engine tray (may have to forgo that one)... Photograph the sills (already bent) with a current newspaper in view... Buy 5ltr of correct oil... Stock up on tranquilisers so I am calm when the bill is presented... Attend anger management class ;) Hopefully that will cover it! Quote
HJT Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Blimey, I think I'm quite lucky. My small local Ford Dealers use the right oil, never bend my sills, definately remove the sump plug to drain oil, definately remove the wheels (without damaging the centre caps), know what I'm talking about when I mention MAF's, droplinks etc, are very friendly and listen to what I say. All that for Quote
VeeDub Nutter Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 I had an interesting chat with the Dealership owner - He basically said that I was taking too much of his time, he avoided talking to customers whenever possible and said that in all his years in the motor trade I was the only person who'd questioned the price of items used, adding that they sourced the cheapest items whereever possible, but forgetting to add that the kept the price the same. He said he had 2000 service customers a year who never questioned them - basically implying that I was the one at fault. He clearly wasn't bothered.I guess you went to Sidlow Gatwick then?& did you also get the priviledge of being spoken too by the arrogant young oik on the service desk as well.I thought WE were supposed to be the customers.... Masked Marauder Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Is this just a Ford thing? When I go to my local Vee Dub dealer I get free tea, coffee, coke, Perrier Water, a paper to read, comfy chair to sit in, and the manager takes the time to stop and ask if everything is alright. And that is just whilst I am waiting for the surfer dude parts guy! Sandals, Bermuda Shorts and a Hawaiian shirt go a long way in his domain! Quote

The quote about the dealer was actually referring to the jokers who supplied my wife's Fabia - sorry for the confusion as it doesn't really belong to this site, but as it has the same engine, I was referring to the PD oil rip off. Interestingly, I used Sidlow this year after my supplying SEAT dealer tried to *hag me for Quote
