davewill Posted June 8, 2005 Report Posted June 8, 2005 Okay, it hot outside today (around 25C)Got into my car at lunchtime (2002 Zetec TDI), and the digital thermometer i have inside the car (bought from Halfords) showed the inside temp as 38.9CDrove the car for half an hour with temp setting on blue, fan speed 4, and centre vents, and place the thermometer in front of the centre air ventsAfter i stopped (had been motorway driving) the thermometer was showing inside temp as 31.5C, and i was still very hot :) As i have the 40,000 mile service coming up, do you think that the aircon is knacked, needs topping up, or should i just open the windows wider I actualy turned the aircon off at one stage, and to me there was no difference in cool air, between on and off. I also noticed that at low speed in Town, the aircon seemed to be blowing warm air, and it was only when i got back to 70mph that it became cooler again I don't turn A/C off at all, so should i be doing in winter? Any comments most welcome before the dreaded service (next week) Thanks Quote
chromedome Posted June 8, 2005 Report Posted June 8, 2005 I had the symptoms you're describing on my Zetec. Could be any number of things, mine was the condenser, changed under warranty and as yours is a 2002 you might get yours sorted under the three year warranty. Just had my current Galaxy a/c fixed. Is was a leak where the pipes connect to the compressor, needed new "O" rings. Quote
jkspoff Posted June 8, 2005 Report Posted June 8, 2005 Most likely problem is the A/C compressor, these are known for not lasting more than a couple of years on some of the Gals ! Just had mine replaced under warranty, it turns out the clutch mechanism inside the compressor dropped out. Total cost to warranty was over 500 quid, needed regassing too, I now have icy cold air on hot days like today... Quote
