Taliska Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 Just repairing the wife's car and now need to reset the airbag... :( Ok, so it's not a Galaxy, but being a Seat Cordoba, it's a cousin insofar as they're all VWs. Dealer quoted Quote
Guest MATT Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 i thought it was just a case of turning the key so many times, doing a handstand, and counting seconds? This reminds me, i got the airbag light on my corsa, and i just turned the ignition on and off three times, very quickly, and then started the engine, and it had gone? MATT Quote
Taliska Posted June 8, 2005 Author Report Posted June 8, 2005 Humm... I guess I'd need VAG-COM for Seat / VW. To explain what happened, I removed the steering wheel to look at the wiper controls. I did turn the ignition on to test the wipers, but I'd disconnected the air-bag so that it didn't get in the way. I suppose the car saw that the airbag wasn't there, then's set its internal flags to say "oooh, had a problem with the airbag, not going to work now until I'm reset." Taliska Quote
Guest MATT Posted June 8, 2005 Report Posted June 8, 2005 in that case, i think you do need VAG com to reset. MATT Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 8, 2005 Report Posted June 8, 2005 Yep, you fooked it. It has detected an open circut and needs resetting with VAG-COM or at a dealers. Quote
Taliska Posted June 8, 2005 Author Report Posted June 8, 2005 This is one of those exceptions to the school of thought "test it out first before screwing it all back together". :) AAARRRGGGHHH! Really stupid thing is that I also broke the wire that connects the airbag from the steering wheel to the loom - the part from a dealer was over Quote

Taliska Posted June 9, 2005 Author Report Posted June 9, 2005 Yes, I believe that's it's called a 'clockspring' - it's a clever bit of flat 2 core wire that can be wound up or unwound when the steering wheel is turned. I always wondered how they did it - and now I know. Regards, Taliska Quote
Taliska Posted June 25, 2005 Author Report Posted June 25, 2005 Your local scrap dealer Yup, they had one - it was quite fun climbing up on the top of a car 6 feet up in the air and sliding in through the windscreen to get the beast out. :D These things are really easy to break and really easy to put back on wrongly. :( I took one off a Polo and it was exactly the same (as far as I could tell) as the Seat's, except for the colour of the connectors. :( Got it on today - just need to get the airbag reset sorted out now. What I found funny was that there's a big red plastic warning label inside the VW's steering wheel, warning you about removing the steering wheel - absolutely nowt inside the Seat's even though it's practically identical. Still for Quote
Guest stevebm1 Posted June 26, 2005 Report Posted June 26, 2005 well if you take it to fords hope your willing to lose an arm and a leg! :( Quote
Guest tonycoates Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 I have found that disconnecting the battery for a minute or so, resets alarms that are no longer in alarm state. Quote
