Guest bella99_uk Posted June 5, 2005 Report Posted June 5, 2005 My brother has a 1.9TDi on an 2001 reg.It is overheating. He has changed the sensor on the radiator, and tested the electric fans work, but the fans do not come on when it gets hot. I suspect it may be the thermostat - but I can't find it.Are these things easy and cheap to (find) replace? Any help appreciated cheers Quote
Guest j_mchattie Posted June 5, 2005 Report Posted June 5, 2005 There might be a second sensor. There is usually one for the dash board gauge, and one for the Computer. the computer sensor also tells the fan when to come on. Which did you change? If the radiator is getting hot, then the thermostat works. If the engine is getting hot and the radiator is still cold - then it may be stuck. Other problem may be water pump, but i doubt it on a vehicle so young. Thermostats are about a fiver. Change the radiator cap too if it has boiled over in the past. http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=5094 Quote
Guest bella99_uk Posted June 5, 2005 Report Posted June 5, 2005 Not sure which one was relaced, but as you look down into the engine bay it is half way down the rad on the left. Couldn't find a thermostat housing.... yeah - read the other post, but different engine....... Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted June 5, 2005 Report Posted June 5, 2005 Have you tried shorting out the conections on the sensor on the rad? also check the fuses and relays for the fans in the fuse box in the engine bay not just the ones in the fuse panel under the dash! Quote
