Hi guys

Just a brief query regarding radio reception with my mk1 galaxy.

When listening to local radio stations i get a fairly good reception but radio1 isn't so clear. Was just wondering if there is any device available which i can use to improve reception, such as a signal booster of some kind.

I'm using a fairly decent sony head (CDX-F7500).

Any help would be appreciated.

The aeriel booster is located up above the head lineing near the rear drives side pop out window, it's normally powered by the OE head unit, when you sick in an after maket head unit the power supply to the booster is lost :( there is an adaptor you can fit to renew the power to the booster :) most good ICE shops should stock what your looking for? hit the search button as I'm sure there are a couple of links ti online stockists and a couple of pictures of the adaptor

I don't think it is the case with the Galaxy, but on the Alhambra and Sharan the booster is built into the radio, so I am posting this for reference purposes really.

So if you have changed the radio in your Bammer or Shazza, and it has the aerial on the glass of the offside rear window and are getting rubbish reception then that is why.

A in-line amplifier is available from most car audio shops, it uses the electric aerial supply to power it up, and plugs between the radio and the aerial plug.

:D you have to use the golf/vw type in line adpt as all vag group cars with roof or hide away type aerial are ampped this is done via a 12volt feed being sent down the centre core of the aereal lead so use a golf aereal adpt and job done :) :( :( :)

When I bought my radio the people supplied one of these:

And told me the silver bit was an amplifier, for the reason I gave above. I guess that it could just be a way of shooting the voltage down the cable to the mast-head amplifier.

Autoleads adapter number: PC5-91

As MM said...it sends power to the aerial amplifier that no longer has a feed

as you have changed the head....most in-car audio places do them also Halfords

but you will pay a bit more there.

Radio one is getting more and more diverse, earlier and earlier in the evening. What happened to decent music untill about half nine, ten? The excrement starts at about 6 now.

Im 20, and I dont listen after about 6 - ive been listening longer than ALL of the DJs have worked there (since John Peel died - RIP) - what has happened to it?

Chris Moyles at breakfast is the only decent show now.

Never mind about buying a new booster. Does anyone know what wire powers the OE booster and does it just need 12v? I don't fancy paying for a new one if the old one still works and just needs a power supply!

Try this for an aerial booster....http://www.wireless.org.uk/car.jpg

wonkydog - the power is fed to the booster through the co-ax aerial lead, not a separate 12 volt feed. That is why you need the special adapter in the aerial lead, it takes its power from the radio feed, and sends it up the co-ax to the aerial amplifier.

Thanks for all the suggestions lads.

Whilst cleaning the gal out tonight, i had a proper look at where the aeriel on the window meets the ceiling panel and i noticed a little black tab hanging down a little outside the plastic cap which covers it.

I pulled the plastic cap off to reveal the black plastic tab was actually a terminal similar to the sort that clip onto a 9v battery.

At the top of the rear side window where the aeriel ends is a connector with the same fittings. I pushed the tab back on....hey presto....radio clear as a bell. Now i need to find something to make sara cox a little easier on the ears

Ah, I see. S'pose I'de better spend a couple of quid for the booster then. Thanks for all the info guys and gals. :( PS I beat a friend of mine with a VR6 Golf and nitrous into work today, mind you he was stuck behind traffic while I took the shortcut!
