I have an R plate TDi which in the last year had an engine replacement, and now when ever the weather gets hot the car loses power, it seems to me that it drives ok until around 2000rpm and then nothing, I can hardly get the vehicle to reach 60mph.

I've had the AFM changed, and the timing checked, and had it hooked up to various computers to see if the problem can be found but the results say there is nothing wrong.

In a couple of weeks I'm off to Italy, where it's nice and hot and am concerned that the car will start playing up on the drive down there.

If anyone has had this problem or knows what the probable cause is I'd really appreciate a reply, I'm tired of giving my money to the garages and them not having a clue.

I'm thinking turbo, but there's no smoke which normally is a sign of wear. But this problem is definatley heat related.

Thanks

Normal symptoms of a duff MAF sensor. Also check your air filter.

Is the MAF the same as an AFM?

Also the vehicle just had a full service.

The MAF (Mass Air Flow?) wouldnt be replaced as part of a normal service. It meters the amount of air going into the engine (and the temp. I think) so that the computer can work out how much fuel to mix in with it.

The air filter should be new as part of a normal service, but the fuel filter may not. I would check the fuel filter, but as its related to temperature, its unlikely (unless the fuel pump has a fault?)

the maf was changed independantley of the service a few months ago.

I was told the fuel filter was changed at this last service.

Whatever the problem is it only occurs when the weather is hot, which i guess is causing the engine to run hotter than normal and that's when the problem arises.

Thanks for your comments

Should be between the airfilter box, and the throttle body.

Ill have a look on my TIS for a picture.

What year/engine size is it?

Ive just put something else of interest on that page

It was a technical report that issues instructions to ford engineers on this problem.

Ford Disagree.

The sensor in the picture is only held in by a small metal reatining clip which slides out - so theres no way it can be to use to sense any sort of pressure.

I may be wrong, I dont have a Gal-Sh-Am, but its the picture on the TIS.
