Guest coliff Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 Today, my galaxy went through a car wash. Apart from the flood of water that always appears on the passanger footwell, the wipers are now going full pelt despite being switched off at the stalk. 22 degrees and glorious sunshine and i am driving with the wipers on like it was a monsoon. Firstly, which fuse disabled the wipers (short term) as on the fuse lid, it says fuse 5 but this did not stop the wipers. The rear wiper works fine from the stalk. Could someone please help as i need to go out later. How do i disable the wipers and what is the problem likely to be. I will sling an extra steak on BBQ for the right answer ! Quote
sad_git Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 I have recently replaced my wiper motor due to total failure. On inspection the failure was caused by water entering the motor control unit (part of motor assembly). A 'tide mark' was clearly visible indicating that it had been sat in water for a prolonged period. After washing the car I noticed that the new motor was in danger of the same fate as water was not draining away from the scuttle tray directly under the motor. As a precaution I have drilled a small drain hole in the tray but on reading previous posts I suspect that the corner scuttle drains may be blocked. You could be having the same trouble, the water may be shorting out the control unit. Quote
Guest coliff Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 Well, i had the AA in to take a look at the car. Problem was the wiper control module under the wiper motor was sat in the lower tray. The module was full of water and had failed. Mr Patrolman dismantled the unit, dried it out and refitted away from the lower tray and all worked fine. I drilled some holes in the bottom of the upper removable tray to let water drain away as it was also pouring into the pollen filter causing water to get into the car.....this seems to have worked well too. Your scuttle drains are blocked. You can clear them buy putting a hose down them and turning it on, they are located in the left and right corners. Quote
