Guest hel Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 Hi See my bro (gt-four) is still on the quest of a seal which "doesn't exist" - any way another query re when the cam belt needs changing - dealer is saying 50k independant garage is saying 60K ?? Have to say I don't hold much faith in dealer - hope you guys may be of help' ta for your help so far Hel Quote
Masked Marauder Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 It depends on the engine. How many BHP is it, 90, 110, 115, 130, 150? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 Hi See my bro (gt-four) is still on the quest of a seal which "doesn't exist" - Oh ye of little faith will be proved wrong and then a suitable punishment will be handed out for disbelievers  Quote
Dave-G Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 Wel hel, If you'd like to give us specific details of the engine and age of the car we can give a specific answer In this case specific means build date if its an early facelift - for total accuracy as there was a change in belt intervals early into the facelift models If however it's a MK1 then the interval is 60.000 miles...as are the first of the new models...this soon changed to 40.000! Quote
jkspoff Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 40,000 miles for the mk2 tdi definately, they even reprinted the service manual books on the later models to state this. Ford apparently released a reminder to their dealer service departments to make it standard at the 40k service. Quote
delboyt Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 i got a 2.0 glx 115 bhb petrolit's a 1997 p reg i got a chain not a cam belt when doe's it need changing & is there anything i need to get checked on itfor change as i was told chains don't need changing ?? it's done 70kbut i got it at 65k butdis not sue if it's been done or need's doing cheers del Quote
seatkid Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 Delboyt, In theory chains don't need changing, but VR6 engines have a known history of camchain tensioner failure. IIRC the Ford design is better , but if you start to hear rattling, thats a sure sign of tensioner failure and imminent disaster. Quote
Guest GT-Four Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 its a 2001 prefacelift 1.9tdi 115 ps Quote
Masked Marauder Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 Every 40000 miles is the recommended interval. Quote
GSMGuy Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 its a 2001 prefacelift 1.9tdi 115 ps If it's a pre facelift, then surely its a 110 Tdi, rather than a 115 as the PD engine only came in on the facelift, didn't it?? Mike Quote
Guest GT-Four Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 mmmmm.................probably more duff info from ford then my sister said she has a printout from the last service that states its a 115 ps maybe there wrong ...again :-( Quote
Dave-G Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 Hmm, the plot is getting thicker... There was a minor facelift of the MK2's in late 01/early02?...there seems to be one every year with ford But if its a 2001 tdi then figure the belt interval as 40K Quote
malcolm.dobell Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 I thought I'd heard somewhere that later 115 or 130 ps cars had had the 60000 belt change restored by the use of a stonger belt in manufacture - or was this wishful thinking? Quote

I heard that too, the use of a "Long-life" belt. But then dealers over here like to take people for mugs. Quote
