buford_t_justice Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 I've been trying to figure out how to remove the instrument cluster without removing the entire front dash! (MKII Diesel) I know there are two screws on its base that secure the cluster but just don't know how to get to them. Can anybody help? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 You have to remove the steering column shroud to get at the two screws! then there's a retaining clip at the top of the clocks, release this and flip the clocks out, unplug the multi plugs and your done Quote
GSMGuy Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 As VR6 said really.. But the steering wheel and airbag need to come off too... Mike Quote
Nick Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 Sorry to disagree with the other replies, but all I did was: (I have the tilt & rake steering wheel) set steering wheel to max out and down, remove the 2 screws at the top of the oval shroud; you need to tease the bottom of the shroud up to clear 2 retaining lugs while removing the shroud from the dash; Note: remove the metal clip that is pushed on the dash, else you will scratch the front lens on the cluster!; the cluster is then held with 2 screws in each upper corner; the cluster is removed by tilting it forward ( the bottom of it sits in 2 plastic runners); unclip 3 multiplugs; remove from dash from one side of the steering wheel in a tilt and one corner movement. Why do you need to remove the cluster? GSMGuy Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 Nick, completely different on the Mk2.. You have to remove the wheel to get at the screws holding the top of the column cover on.. Trust me, I've had mine off about 5 times! Mike Quote
