jasper Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 Can anybody help. I have just had the exhaust replaced on my 1998 2.3, the original has done 85000 replced it as a bracket had failed. the new exhaust is a Bosal make however it has a distinctive 'roar' from the rear silencer. tokk it back the garage used terms : an exhaust is always the quitest just before it fails, its new so needs some time to carbon up and get quieter. They offered to replace it(not sure who pays) but suggested I run it for a few more weeks, then bring it back if not satisfied. Any advice or similiar experience? Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 See reply on other thread; please don't post the same question twice in different sections of the forum; "regulars" read all sections and will find just one post fairly quickly ! Quote
jasper Posted May 18, 2005 Author Report Posted May 18, 2005 Ivor e Tower I'm not as good at this as the regular's . So I need some gentle guidance. I Can't find any other reply you refer to? Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 Neither can I at the moment !Oh well - yes it is true that boxes do gunge up with carbon deposits etc as they get old, but basically this will only quieten the noise and make little difference to the sound. If the new exhaust does not sound right (ie a little noisy, rather than just a change in tone to what you are used to hearing) then something may be wrong. Make sure that there are no leaks. Quote
johnb80 Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 Often the aftermarket exhausts are nowhere near as good as the originals. I had a Cosworth Scorpio estate and had an exhaust fitted at Crapfit and it was awful, they did try replacing the whole system twice and still it was no better. Finally I went to a Ford main dealer, they quoted and astronamical figure, through shear desperation I had it fitted and all was bliss again. I would be very tempted to ask if they have any better quality / stainless systems available, that would probably make the difference. The system fitted to my Cossy was a Bosal by the way, i would never have another one fitted from this company to any car. Regards - John Quote
Guest jtwonk Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 wHAT A LOAD OF b*LL*CKS . the exhaust will get slightly quieter from new until it carbons up, but in most circumstances this will be unnoticeable to the average customer. I have work for an OEM exhaust manufacturer for the past 6 yrs & have measured more exhaust noise than I would care to think about. Most aftermarket exhausts are made to a much cheaper design, using cheaper materials etc compared to the OEM system. Even parts bought from the dealer could be made to a different design & will most deffinately use cheaper grade of material. Because at the end of the day they run a business & if the exhaust only last 1 year you will go & buy another, granted it may not be from the dealer. Quote
