Guest twigglett Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 Hi . Does anybody know why my 1.9td galaxy makes a fan like noise when accelerating even when the blower(heater) motor turned off . hope you can help while I still got some hair left."H" Quote
Masked Marauder Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 Could it perhaps be something to do with the turbocharger? Quote
Guest twigglett Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 thanks for the idea but the noise is more like the heater fan than the turbo whistle of dump/gate valve. Howard Quote
Guest j_mchattie Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 I read that the Turbo aperture increases on acceleration, something to do with saving fuel. And the exhaust gas recirculation was revised on the 1.9 too. If the aperture changes with revs, then the sound produced will change too - perhaps only making the fan noise under load. So when you go under the bonnet at a stand still (and no load) it may sound like a turbo - but will sound completely different when driving. The other reason might be worn-out belts. Quote
johnb80 Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 Check for air leaks in the pipework after the turbo. Quote
