Ivor_E_Tower Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 On a couple of occasions, once the engine (tdi 115) has started, it immediately stalls. It then re-starts OK. Any suggestions as to why? Also, the low-speed anti-stall in general does not seem very good, especially when compared to my Renault direct-injection diesel. On several occasions I've stalled the Galaxy when changing from first to second at low speed. Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 Has this started since the air-con fix? Quote
HJT Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 Red line it everywhere, that'll sort it :D Seriously though, my Tdi seems to pull well from low revs and I've not had a problem with stalling, so it sounds like there is something going on and it's not a characteristic of the Tdi. Mind you, in comparison to my Mondeo Tdi which was only happy between 2000 and 3000 revs the Galaxy is positively perky right across the rev range. Is this only happening when the engine is cold or has it happened on a warm start?Howard Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted June 20, 2003 Author Report Posted June 20, 2003 Only happens on cold start, and it was going on before the aircon fix (and has done it once since). Quote
asimons Posted June 20, 2003 Report Posted June 20, 2003 My TDI 130 has never stalled after starting, though it always dips just after starting and then picks up again. However (much to my embarrassment) I have found that it is quite possible to stall if you get teh right combination of low revs and poor clutch control. Normally it pulls like a train, but sometimes the revs drop and it just gives up. I'm told that it's a characteristic of turbo diesels that when they drop below a critical rev level they just give up. Certainly it only really happened when I first had the car - unfamiliar throttle & clutch, you know the excuses! Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted June 20, 2003 Report Posted June 20, 2003 Same here...it only dips sometimes once started, but only when cold. Stalling problems on diesels can be due to air leaks on the induction side, including the EGR valve. If the pipe from the air filter is not sealing, for instance. The MAF gives incorrect air mass info. Have you checked fuel and air filters? Are there any slight fuel weeps around any pipe unions? The problem will be something like air or fuel leaks, I suspect.
