Guest LittleRob Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 Hi there I was thinking about getting a towbar fitted. My local towbar centre has quoted for a Witter F102 (which according to the witter web-site is the correct one for 2003 Galaxys) Does anyone know if: a) It interferes with the parkig sensor? <_< Since its not got a removable ball, will it hit before the sensor is a continuous tone? latrine Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 Lil'Rob mine's a fixed towbar and when first fitted i had an intermittant problem with the sensors however, i very sliughtly bent the electric sockets a little closer to the bumper and have never had any problems since my snesors give the continuos tone when about 12 inch from the object, the towbar is a lttle nearer at about 7 inch away, so in answer to your question, i get the continous beep before anything hits, although not that much of a safety net! Guest LittleRob Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 Thanks for the reply. I'm not quite sure what you mean by ...bent the electric sockets a little closer to the bumper... Could you give me a little more detail. Thanks Rob Quote
latrine Posted May 22, 2005 Report Posted May 22, 2005 Rob - sorry for the delay in replying the electric sockets are located on a thin metal plate sandwiched between the towball and the mounting which the towball bolts onto it is probably only 1.5 - 2mm thin the towball is obviously mounted right in the middle of the bumper and does not/should not interfere with the rear sensors however, the electric sockets on mine are located to one side (it can vary depedning upon the manufaturers/fitters) and they seemed to be interfering with the sensors albeit on an intermittent basis i therefore applied gentle pressue to the electic sockets, thereby slightly bending the thin plate upon which they are mounted, bending it back towards the bumper slightly in the hope that they would be moved outsside of the field of the sensors i'm pleased to say it worked erfectly and now neither the towball or the electric sockets interfere with the sensers if you want any more info, don't hesitate to ask mate Quote
Guest LittleRob Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 Thanks for taking the trouble to give a comprehensive replay. In fact I have just picked up the car with the Witter towbar fitted and everything seems fine. The RPS bleeped for a few seconds on engaging reverse, (usually doesn't it only bleep once) but them stopped. However, when I backed up to the wall it worked again, so I think that everything will be fine. Do you think its clever enough to figure out that the obstruction wasn't moving relative to the car? (Perhaps not, or you wouldn't have needed to alter yours. The electrics for mine look to be much further under the car, so perhaps thats made the difference. For anyone else that searches and finds this (as I did) I got a Witter F102 and it was fitted by www.tanfieldtowing.co.uk who have 3 branches around the UK. They were very good to deal with (I went there on a recommendation) and I have no trouble also recommending them. So there you go, I have the shiniest ball in Essex, now I just need something to tow ;-) Cheers Rob Quote
