Guest Davtona Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 Can anyone tell me anything about the t/stat on my 2.8? Specifically where it is. Have just fitted new rad, now it's overheating, bottom hose is cold, possibly the stat is stuck shut, but where is it? heater control is open and have tried revving it to clear an airlock to no avail. All help welcome. Quote
galaxychap Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 To find stat housing just follow top rad hose back as the stat is connected to this and remember when refilling with coolant to set the interior temp to hot with a/c off if you have this fitted Quote
Guest Davtona Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 That was my first reaction, but the top hose connects to a housing with three colour coded sensors on it - didn't look a typical stat housing, am I wrong? P.S thanks for the prompt reply. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 The stat housing is below the one with the sensors in, you can just see it if you look closely, it's the one with the smaller bore hose exiting it under the radiators top hose Quote
Guest Davtona Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Thanks for the replies guys, the problem is now sorted. Yes the housing is the one mentioned - it's a three peice plastic affair with the stat inside - totally failed. Foxed me cos I was looking for a location controlling hot outgoing coolant to the top of the rad, not cold coolant going into the bottom of the engine from rad. If it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger as they say. To anyone who searches and finds this post in the future beware 2 things, there are 2 stats available (80 +86 degrees) get the right one, and the plastic housings warp with time / heat, make sure you have some sealant or good housings before reassembly. Good luck. :) Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 best picture of the stat housing off the engine I could find http://www.evolutionsports.com/images/products/M30-121-001_big.jpg Quote
