Guest Buddman Posted May 5, 2005 Report Posted May 5, 2005 Hi all Can anyone please advise me on a problem with my power steering. On low rev's, (idle) the power steering becomes VERT noisy, screeching sound, but if the rev's are above 2000 RPM's, steering appears to turn smoothly and is much quieter!!! Is it an expensive problem to fix. Quote
Guest Bobsys Posted May 5, 2005 Report Posted May 5, 2005 Hi, are you also getting vibration/juddering at steering wheel.Mine did this, turned out to be power steering/etc - belt tensioner had failed; Looking under bonnet- engine running, the jockey wheel type tensioner was juddering all over the place, this went away as revs increase: New belt/ tensioner. (warranty job done).Otherwise, suggest belt is slipping, may be contaminated with oil or just plain old and glazed. Quote
Guest Bobsys Posted May 5, 2005 Report Posted May 5, 2005 Hi, Do you also get juddering/vibration on steering wheel?Mine (2003) did this, turned out to be belt tensioner failed. (Warranty repair); The jockey wheel tensioner was flapping around (engine running) but steadied when revs increase.Failing that could belt be glazed, through age/contamination. I guess youve checked fluid level? may be related, but 1 week later had alternator! replaced on warranty too - a screeching sound made worse by turning steering!! Quote
