Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 6, 2005 Report Posted May 6, 2005 Can any body tell me, is it normal for the gears to change up on their own If you leave the seelctor in "auto" then yes.Otherwise it will change on its own to protect the engine from over-revving or over-stressing the engine. Quote
rwtomkins Posted May 6, 2005 Report Posted May 6, 2005 If the stick's in tiptronic mode (over to the right) then, like MATT says, the gears should only change up when the revs hit the red zone. But I think I'm right in saying they change down whenever they feel it's appropriate, which can be a bit annoying. Oddly, if you use manual gear selection (with the stick over to the left, selecting 1,2,3 etc instead of D) you can take the revs right through the red zone until the engine explodes without the gears ever changing up by themselves. Guest V6 Owner (George) Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 I have been reading up on this and apparently it is normal for the gears to change up whilst in tiptronic mode if the revs hit the red and the gears should change down to suit the speed you are doing so if you slow down then the gears should change down also.
