.. has hit me i think!

my passenger electric window has suddenly stopped working - there were no warning signs or noises or anything - it just stopped working, either from the swtich on the passenger door or the switch on the driver's door

if thw switch was faulty on either the passenger or driver door would this prevent operation from both switches?

if i press either switch in the 'up/close' direction i can hear a small click (and the interior light dims slightly) so i suspect the motor is trying to operate but can't as the window is already closed

however, no such noise/dimming when i try to open the window

any ideas anyone?

Probably a broken wire in the door loom, they usually break in the flexing rubber boot going into the door. You're probably going to have to take off the door trim and trace the wiring back from there.

I have this exact problem - did you manage to solve it?

I don't think it's a broken wire - if I disconnect the wiring plug from the motor it doesn't make the clicking noise any more, so power is definitely reaching the motor. I can only think of trying a replacement motor.

I have the door trim off, and my book says you must disconnect the glass from the regulator before you remove the regulator. To do this, you need to window the window down a little untiil you can see the clamp bolts - doh! If I could wind the window I wouldn't be doing it!

So, question: can you get away with removing the regulator bolts with the glass still clamped on - or am I going past a point of no return here? Looks like the regulator might be tricky to get back in.

Anything else I haven't thought of?

i had a problem with my passenger door window, went down and just refused to go back up, no warning or other symptoms, it just had to start raining then, i tested the system with a borrowed motor, i have just removed the old motor and regulator completely and replaced it with one from the scrap yard, the whole replacement took about 30 mins, i thought it was relatively easy to do, while i remember once the window was down it use to click only as if a relay was making, it now works fine.

lucky me though my passenger back window has now stopped fully up thankfully.

good luck

I manged to loosen the regulator enough to squeeze it upwards and unclip it from the door while the glass was still at the top. Having done that the whole thing can then be moved down slightly. In doing this I found that the white plastic bracket which slides up and down the regulator had slipped slightly off the top, so that the top of it couldn't go back down onto the slider. Having wiggled it back onto the regulator slider, it now seems to work, so it wasn't a faulty motor after all.

Don't know how long it will last because I don't know why it came off in the first place. At least it didn't cost anything to find out.
