Anyone have any opinions about the new Pirelli P6 tyres which are advertised as being specifically for MPV's.Saw some on a Peugeot 807 in my local dealers recently, and as I'm just about ready for some new ones............

Just had some new Continental CH90's 205/60 15 95H for the front.

Same as the originals, did a lot of research on Net but managed to get a deal at a local fitter (Selecta Tyre)

The ones I was looking at were 215/60/15R 98H for a 2.3 ghia. How do you tell if they are reinforced.Isn't the 98 bit a load rating?

On the Continentals it actually says Reinforced on the sidewall.

Just double check when ordering. I've been told that you can fail an MOT if you have non-reinforced

only certain galaxys in my tyre book at work specify REINFORCED tyres, they are not much heavier at all compared to a large ish family car......

I have never heard the thing about MOT failure:::::::::

HI

My local tyre agent wouldn't sell me tyres that didn't specify reinforced on them. Don't be swayed by some people on the board telling you it's rubbish!! For the sake of a tenna a tyre more, I reckon yours and your familys life are worth more than that! But it's up to you!

I've got Firestone re-inforced tyres on mine.

My local Auto-Store manager has got a Galaxy and he told me that they should have re-inforced tyres on otherwise if you have an accident it can invalidate your insurance policy!!

worth bearing in mind!!

Hi,

With ref to reinforce tyres, i have noticed on tyres that they have a maximum "psi" rating imprinted on them , if your tyre pressures exceed this warning, i am lead to believe if you were involved in an accident and this was a contributing factor leading to the accident your insurance would not pay out, and also may fall foul of the law as well.

When buying tyres check that the "psi" rating is covered for fully laden tyre pressures

My previous car was a ford granada, when that was laden and towing the tyre pressures were 44 "psi"

Cor ,it seems the more this one is stirred the muddier it becomes!Just to throw even more confusion onto it,the P6's I mentioned in my first post have "Extra Load" stamped on them..is this the same as reinforced? As they have load rating of 98,which corresponds to an actual weight of 750kg per tyre then a set of these should be good for 3 tonnes, surely ample for a humble galaxy? :D

I WILL PHOTOTCOPY THE SAID PAGE FROM WORK THEN YOU ALL WILL BE ABLE TO SEE WHAT ONE OF THE TYRE INDUSTRY "BOOKS" STATE,

The tyre pressure thing is going to a dead end straight away, goto several different tyre gauges and see the difference in pressures.

:( :( :( :(

IT DOES ONLY STAE 2 DIFFERENT TYRE SIZES 16" IF I CAN REMEMBER.

ALL WILL BE REVEALED SOON.

As far as I can see from the handbook for our Sharan it is the load rating not the fact that the tyres should be reinforced that is important. 95 load rated tyres are recommended; in the case of 195/205 tyres these appear to need to be reinforced to meet the 95 load rating and in the case of 215 tyres these don't need to be reinforced to meet the 95 rating (due to the age of our Sharan only 15inch sizes are listed).

Does this help!

I am pretty sure that what Richard says is exactly right. I have a sticker inside my fuel filler flap, showing pressures for different sizes and it says the same too.
