I am at my wits end,

I have posted before with this sort of problem and,

Here goes

Bought the car at the end of Feb, drove it for 4 days, then it refused to start

So i left it in with my local Ford dealers and after 2 wks they replaced the bottom Crankshaft pulley and aux pulley reset the timing on the cam.

It drove for 1 day then refused to start again.

So the next day left it in again

2 wks later they told that their was no fuel in the fuel filter so they replaced that and a valve on the top of it (injector needle or something like that).

Next morning same thing again.

So they put it back on the computer and said that the brain was faulty as it wasn`t sending a signal to the glowplug relay to heat them

They told me that either they would have to fit a new brain at

It sounds like Ford have shafted you.

 

The clue is the air in the fuel.

 

Find where it is getting in and you will most likely have solved the problem.

What I don't understand is, doesn't the work carried out so far by your local Ford dealer make them libale for the cost of the non-repairs carried out so far, and don't they have an obligation to fix your problem? Why bail out and get someone else involved, and in the process potentially give Ford a get out clause?

Who sold you this car? Its evidentally been sold with a fault, and it should be the duty of the seller to fix it.

 

Doesn't sound like much of a Ford dealer.

 

Sounds as if you have a leak in the fuel system....most likely at the fuel filter. Check all pipework and joints between the filter up to the injectors

Glow plugs and all that - what a load of crap, the TDi should start without them instantly at anything above freezing....

 

Does sound like a simple air leak in the fuel line - probably caused by Fraud when messing about with the filter.. Make sure any O rings are in their correct places and check all clips/unions..

I think the dealer is actually holding there hands up and saying we don`t know what`s wrong.

 

As i bought the car privately they are saying that whoever has been at it before has made a mess of the car and it wpild seem as though they don`t want to work at it.

 

I am out of options.

Your not out of options, the fact that when the air was bled out of the fuel line the car started shows where the problem lies.

 

The fuel pipe comes out of the tank, to the filter and from the filter to the pump.

 

The pump draws the fuel up the pipe from the tank, through the filter and into the pump.

 

So find the leak, bleed off the injectors and you will be fine.

Thanks for the prompt replies guys,

I phoned the Ford Dealer yesterday evening and they are coming this morning to collect the car,

 

Will keep you informed.

They did say on the phone that this is a different problem again but the way i see it is that they fitted the fuel filter last week and surely it is their responsability to fix their mistake. ???

Update,

Car went in to the dealers yesterday after 2 machenics bled the injectors again and then scratched their heads saying "we`ll have to put it on the machine again".

I asked for a coutesy car but they were booked up a week in advance.

they told me they would try and get a look at the car last night or today,

so i rang up at lunchtime today and they said they were going to put 2 new pipes on coming from the filter to the diesel pump.

I asked them to do a compression test on the engine but they said the compression was o.k

 

I`ll just have to wait and hope againnnnnnn.

I hope they have it ready for the summer as i have a caravan 2 kids and a missus hoping for a holiday soon

Update Friday

Called in to the dealers to see what was happening,

They said they don`t know what is wrong with the car that everytime they fix something another problem arises.

I asked whether the 2 pipes they replaced made any difference and they replied No.

I said were do we go from here then, and they said "we`ll have to get another look at it on Monday"

If they can`t fix it who can?

Does this mean i will have to scrap it?

update tuesday,

Got a phone call from the dealer and they told me that the timing was out a tooth again.

They set it and the car started with a half turn.

When i asked what was the reason for this they said they were going to strip it down and check around the bottom pulley again and check the end of the crank.

They phoned this evening and said that the face of the inner pulley was badly worn as was the face of the crank itself.

They suggested putting a second hand engine in

Actually I spoke to a VAG mechanic on Saturday about the crank pully slipping and he said he has never heard of it happening.

 

Anyone know if they have a woodruff key or if they taper?

i have known and come accross this problem, but not with this particular engine ,it took me a great deal of time to find it as it is not a common occurance, if you have a friend that is a mechanic may be worth asking him to take a look at it with the garage's permission if you dont then you may have to pay out for an independant inspection

I was talking to a Volkswagen mechanic this evening and he said that this was a common problem with Golfs and the local Volkswagen dealer keeps the inner pulley and bolt in stock at all times.

 

Because of their ignorance, the ford dealer is charging me.

Surely when they removed the outer pulley they should have checked to see why it was wobbling in the first place.

Now after 6 weeks in and out of the garage they have eventually arrived at this conclusion

and will probably charge me at least

I would refuse to pay for their incompetence! easy for me to say though!

 

On the bright side, at least your valve train has remained intact.

nice to see a positive outcome although it still remains to be seen how much it will cost you, best advice i can offer is remain calm and discuss rationally with the manager and try to get a price that is acceptable to you, may even be worth a phone call to ford uk customer help desk and ask if this is a known problem come to that may be worth a call to vw seeing that its a vw engine and ask the same . if it is a known prob then point this out to the manager at your garage. best of luck. :lol: :o
