Bonnet Cable/latch

hi,a freind of mine with a sharan,said he altered the way the cable operated the latch,by having it meet the latch from the battery side of the engine compartment instead of the drivers side.He said this improved operation of the flimsy release handle 100%.Anybody else done this?

I put a strengthening plate behind the latch in the footwell and bolted it to the frame,instead of the flimsy screws and rawplug job thats standard from new.
