buford_t_justice Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Does anybody know if you can get LED rear light clusters for the MK2 Galaxy?? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Are you after the whole rear lamp unit or just replacement bulbs? I havent seen any replacement rear light clusters for the MK1 or MK2, but there are a few places that sell replacement LED lamps here's one to start you off Quote
Marky Posted May 6, 2005 Report Posted May 6, 2005 Cheers VR6..ordered a set of tail/stop for my mini's smoked rears !! Quote
buford_t_justice Posted May 7, 2005 Author Report Posted May 7, 2005 Has anybody else tried these LED replacement bulbs? It's just that I've read a few comments elsewhere that the low current drain of an LED bulb compared to that of a standard bulbs triggers the "bulb blown" feature inside the car. Also when used as replacements for the indicators, for the same reason as above, they then flash at twice the normal rate. Quote
MrT Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 I tried the LED bulbs in the rear of the Galaxy and they were far dimmer than the original bulbs. The problem is the LED bulbs emit light in one direction and this just shines out the back through only the centre of the lens. The normal bulbs emit light in all directions and this scatters off the textured surface of the reflector giving a much larger brighter light visible from a far wider angle. Quote
buford_t_justice Posted May 8, 2005 Author Report Posted May 8, 2005 Looking at the link from VR6Galaxy to a website called "UltraLEDs", they supply a bulb which also has LEDs pointing out towards the side. www.ultraleds.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=44&products_id=680&osCsid=2354b040165e4cf6e356fc1e7803b217 Was it these LED's MrT that you tried or if not do you think they would solve your original problem?? Also did you try LED's for your indicators? If so did you have any problems with the rate of flashing? Thanks. Quote
MrT Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 Mine were prior to the version with the side LEDs. I only tried them in the brake lights and reversing lights. Quote
maglite Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 I tried those new LED White stop tail bulbs with the LED's pointing in different directions, but the level of light was still very low compared to using a normal bulb. Cars such as BMW's and Audi's use a new technology of LED called "Luxeon" The LED managed to fire out light in all directions like a normal bulb, but with all the benefits of an LED. Be warned though, because Luxeon LED's are very expensive. As for a pre-assembled LED rear cluster for the GAL, I suppose you'll have to wait and see if any of the third party manufacturers come up with some designs. At the moment most of the LED clusters around are for boy racer type cars. Check out Autostylin for more info. Quote
matt1e Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 Luxeon LEDS are just cast a little differently. Like a diamond cut, this with a slightly larger current makes them road legal. You can get current reducers to stop the blown bulb warnings on new circuits, they fit in line on the circuit returning the right signals !! Quote
