Nick Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 So, last year I was having a re-gas and during the vacuum phase I heard a 'pop'. Carried on anyway and dumped 1.35kg of 134A in there. All working fine and cold, then while driving 20 mins later, the cabin filled with most of the 1.34kg of gas!.Bit the bullet this year and decided to wade in and replace the evaporator. Armed with the TIS CD, an after market evaporator ( Quote
seatkid Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 Hey, nice one mate and well done. You're a brave one... Those pics will be appreciated, I have a new evaporator (and drier) waiting under the stairs.... Some questions if you don't mind..... Did you do it single handed? Did you have to work under the car at any time (i.e. did you lift the car, remove the undertray... When you say 2 days, was that with lots of "thinking" breaks? What did the evaporator failure look like? Was it due to corrosion or just bad manufacture? Quote
Nick Posted May 2, 2005 Author Report Posted May 2, 2005 Hi Seatkid. I wondered if you would notice this topic! I was going to PM you if not!To answer your questions: No work under the car. I decided to only remove the under tray if I dropped something, which I didn't! I did it alone. The misses is only 5 foot so would have been of little (ha ha) help. The only part that may need assistance was lifting the whole facia, not because it's heavy, just cumbersome. The job was well strung out. Lots of hand washing, tea, going back to the TIS. I was expecting to see a pipe fracture on the failed evaporator, but could see nothing. Very little obvious corrosion. 'Lung' power could not expose the hole. But the A/C system runs at higher pressure than I can blow!Ford estimated that Labour for this job was Quote

GSMGuy Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Jesus, what a nightmare of a job! btw, is the red block with what looksl like heatsink fins close to the evaporator the resistor pack for the blower? Mike Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 That's where mine is mounted, but mine is different to that! that could be down to the fact that Nicks is for a climate control system and mines for AC, it also looks like it has a pot on the side for adjustment ? mmm that's not shown or described in the diagrams! Nick we need a close up ;) you dont mind ripping it all out again do you? :D Quote
Nick Posted May 2, 2005 Author Report Posted May 2, 2005 Mike, the red block is nothing to do with the blower pack. Restister pack replacement diag from TIS is shown here http://www.citroenpicasso.org.uk/picasso/i...indpost&p=57227click on Doc1 attachment Quote
Dave-G Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 :P I see the pix info worked out ;) :) Jeez! I dont Think I'd have undertaken that job,I just tolerate no AC :) Quote
Ivor Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 Blimey! I wouldn't tackle that. I've had the evapourator, condenser and compressor all replaced under warranty. Now I know my dashboard has been out. Quote

Restister pack replacement diag from TIS is shown here http://www.citroenpicasso.org.uk/picasso/i...indpost&p=57227click on Doc1 attachment If it's not the resistor pack? then where is the resistor pack? thats the position it's mounted on mine and the position shown on the parts list? which list two types one for AC and one for CC, and more to the point what is it if it not the resistor pack? Quote
Nick Posted May 3, 2005 Author Report Posted May 3, 2005 I guess you are right, it must be the restister pack. It looked different to the diagram on the TIS. I stand corrected. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 Any chance you could get a better picture of it? maybe on the kitchen table? :) :) fancy popping back out there and taking it off for us ;) go on you know you want to :P it looked like it has an adjustment pot on the side of it? that could be due to the fact that yours is CC where as mine is AC? Quote
Nick Posted May 3, 2005 Author Report Posted May 3, 2005 Truth is I never looked at it that close! Yea, give me 2 days and I'll pop it right out for ya! Don't standby!! Quote
gsxrgrowler Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 The strange thing about this thread is, Ive got Coolant and aircon fluid dribbling from the back side of the heater box under the dash and im currently removing the console to investigate  Will keep you posted Quote
