Mauser Posted April 30, 2005 Report Posted April 30, 2005 Hi guys,Hope suns shinning where you are ;), my Galaxy 1999 2.3 Cruise Control seems poorly, it does accelerate but @ a snails pace and seems to give up around 70 and won't start @ anything less than 30ish.Any idea's why its playing up please ?, used to work fine but haven't used it much recently.Second problem got dreadfull vibration and shaking of the steering wheel when braking from 70 down to about 40, always worse when lightly braking rather than heavy braking. MOT found slight play in near side track rod end and I checked pads which have about 2mm on them. Disks were replaced some time back prior to me getting the car and they appear only to be slightly worn down.Would the thin pads + the track rod end cause me shaking ? and does anyone know a good cheap place for pads ?.Also need some wiper blades lol, all comes in 1 go... guess lifes like that. All advice appreciated as always ;).Cheers Simon Quote
Masked Marauder Posted April 30, 2005 Report Posted April 30, 2005 Normally brake judder is warped disks. Do you do a lot of heavy braking and then keep the foot brake pressed down afterwards, like in stop-strat motorway traffic etc? Quote
Bigjeeze Posted April 30, 2005 Report Posted April 30, 2005 Could also be the Drop links - When mine were knackered I had a wobble and shaking that disapeared after I replaced the drop links. They were well & truly buggered!! Anyway at around Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted April 30, 2005 Report Posted April 30, 2005 The loss of and poor performance of the cruise control could be down to the hose's perishing allow the loss of vacuum? also check the operation of the vacuum dump switches on the brake and clutch pedals, an iffy seal on one of these could cause a problem? how long ago was the MOT? the track rod could have got worse since then? and be the cause of the shakes! you had been told it's on it's way out! so now could be the time to change it? then have a look at the brakes and the drop links while your there ;) Quote
Guest Wanny Posted April 30, 2005 Report Posted April 30, 2005 Hi Mauser, had the same problem with cruise. Hose had perished behind then nearside indicator where it connects to vac pump just simple remove rubber pipe and replace. Also apparently cruise does work until over 30 mph ..... Hope this helps ! Mauser Posted May 1, 2005 Author Report Posted May 1, 2005 Thanks for advice lads,Don't do any heavy braking but that doesn't mean previous owner didn't :). Disks look fine and only a small reduction in width but I guess thats still no proof they not warped to death. Will change the track rod end as the rubber is split and it needs doing before I invest in some new tyres. The crusie hose, is it dead easy to spot ?, I find most things apart from the engine are invisible on a Galaxy :), alternator belt comes to mind :), if anyone has a piccy of where it goes from and to it would be appreciated, is it a long hose ?, and do I get it from Ford or do other DIY outlets sell it ?.Cheers Simon Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 As said earlier the vacuum pump is located in the cavity behind the front passenger side indicator, once you have found the pump the hose should be fairly easy to follow! also check the hoses where they attatch to the pedal switches and servo up under the dash on the drivers side Quote
Mauser Posted May 1, 2005 Author Report Posted May 1, 2005 OK found the pipe coming out from behind the passenger indicator, but there a module fixed to the side which prevents me from seeing anything but a few inches of pipe, felt under the accelerator and found the pipe which after 6 inches went into a "T" ?, after that couldn't see where other side went, 1 side goes through the bulkhead then vanishes as I am unbale to see where it comes through :).I have attached a picture could some one point out which pipe I might be needing to check ?, totally baffled how I am supposed to fix anything on these engines as the space / access is terrible. Sorry to be a pain but struggling on this one.Simon http://www.mortal-souls.com/mauser/pipes.jpg Quote
Guest Wanny Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 Have you actually removed the passenger side inicator ? Behind there it is very obvious what is the vac pump, have checked this the rubber hose connecting to this is the one that persishes has this been checked ? :) Quote
Mauser Posted May 1, 2005 Author Report Posted May 1, 2005 Ahhh appologies,When you said behind I thought I was to access the pump from within the bonnet area.... not remove the indicator then get to it.Will look tomorrow :).Thanks in advance.Simon Quote
Mauser Posted May 2, 2005 Author Report Posted May 2, 2005 Well what can I say ;),Opened bonet & removed the 1 torex screw holding in the indicator unit and slid forward, unpluged the bulb and looked in....there was the pipe, had a little feel and hey presto a split :D.Pulled off, cut of the bad end and replaced... went down the road, of course closed bonet first and all works fine. Many thanks guys enclosed evidence below.Cheers Simon http://www.mortal-souls.com/mauser/split.jpg Quote
