Rallim Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Having read numerous topics and posts on retro fitting cruise control I am inspired to give it a go myself on my 2001 TDI Sharan. I have bought a stalk from GSF but I am unsure as to the wiring loom I need to buy, is it the same one as I've seen referred to when fitting it to a Mk4 Golf / Bora. I know that people have performed this upgrade succesfully and would be grateful if someone could shed some light on this for me.... Thanks, Gordon. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Look on the clutch pedal, is there a switch? Remove the steering column shroud, is there a spare connector? Everywhere I have look suggests it is simply plug in and enable on the ECU. Some say that sometimes the ECU is already enabled. Quote
GSMGuy Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Righty.. All the relevant bits (switches, sensors etc) WILL definately be there, now the next bit depends on whether yours is a mk1 or mk2.. On the mk 1 the loom should also be tucked up behind the dash.. On the mk2 you will need a speciall extended loom, either home made, or from a guy I got mine from in Germany - Quote
Rallim Posted May 2, 2005 Author Report Posted May 2, 2005 Thanks for the information. It is a Mk2, and as you say there is no cable in the steering column but the clutch does seem to have a switch fitted. I know of the guy you are talking about as did look at his ebay items whilst reading other cruise control threads, when I'm feeling brave I will give it a go (feeling a bit disheartened with adding stuff after buying fog lamps thinking the wiring loom was there for them, only to discover I had been looking at the exterior temperature sensors and can't see hide nor hair of the fog connectors.. doh ;) . ) I do have a basic serial vag com lead and the free version of the Ross-tech's software (v311-2) do you know if this is able to enable the cruise control or do you have to buy a newer version of the software? Thanks. Gordon Quote
