Guest MATT Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 I've been thinking about how to boost the bass in the sound system, my thought is,under the front passenger seat, will go a one channel amp, which will power a small subwoofer, under the drivers seat, now my problem comes when i connect it to the head unit, i pulled it out today, wires at back of head unitand i recon, that from the left it is,Speaker connections, power supplies, CD Changer, and then aerial wire, I also found this plug, not connected to anything, What is this? Also, between, the speaker and power connections, is another socket- what is this? matt - many thanks in advance. Quote
chromedome Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 It's for the Automatic Volume Control. Re-connect it and you should find the volume goes up with the ambient noise of the vehicle. You can select the amount it goes up by using the menu button. You won't have the AVC option at the moment if the plug is disconnected. Hope this helps. Quote
chromedome Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Forgot to say, the plug connects to your empty socket. The wire normally a bit short so that's probably why it's come of when you removed the radio. Quote
Guest MATT Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Thanks Chromedome, i will plug it in tonight. I don Quote
Guest MATT Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 well ive plugged it in, and tested, and it works! - more noticeable when slowing down for junctions etc. but there is still spare pins available - what are these? i have also been in motor world, and they say i cannot fit an amp, as a) there are no connections, and  it would blow the head unit up, ------------- Ime sure (i think Wozza) fitted an amp -- haven Quote
chromedome Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Pleased it worked ok. Don't put to much bass in, knowing the Galaxy something will fall off  Quote
chromedome Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Just had a thought. Years ago graphic equalizers were all the rage. You actually connected the radio speaker wires to it and then installed your big speakers. Watched all the rust bounce off my old Beetle  . I'm sure graphic equalizers are still around, may be worth looking in to rather than using an amp. They are normally multi channel so you can set the sound to your own preference. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 I have a bass unit that will work off a speaker feed or off a set of pre amp sockets on the back of the head unit, there are several of these unit available from different manufacturers here's one to start you off http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock_image/odsb5000.jpg Quote
Guest MATT Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Thanks - i am looking into it, one thought that crossed my mind today was, to buy a Crossover and send the bass frequency away from the door speakers, and into the subwoofer, this would then turn the system into a '3 way' speaker system, with far better bass and more clear. The only problem, it means cutting wires  Matt Quote
