Guest Griffiths Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 *What kind of fuel economy are you guys getting out of your 2 litre Galaxy? We are getting around 400miles of mixed road driving to a tank *How often does the timing chain need replacing? TIA Quote
wiggybn Posted June 28, 2003 Report Posted June 28, 2003 Two of my friends who have 2 litres, both talk about 26-28 mpg. This would only give about 380 miles if you ran down to empty, or 300 miles if you refill when down to the quarter mark. Quote
Guest chrisH Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 I'm getting over 530 miles to a tank on a 2 litre diesel. On a mixture of motorway and town driving. Not sure about the timing chain though..... Quote
Guest Griffiths Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 Ok weve just done a 750ish mile round trip from N.Wales to Ramsgate and back and at a steady 90mph its returned around 130miles per 1/4 tank. That will do nicely methinks :( Quote
StuntMonkey Posted August 1, 2003 Report Posted August 1, 2003 I have a 96 2.0 GLX Petrol and can get 28 mpg on average but have had 37 mpg on motorway runs. :) Quote
Guest John J Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 I bought a 96 2.8 V6 GLX (Man) 2 weeks ago, and haven't really driven it too far yet. Anybody out there have any ideas on what mpg I should be getting (don't laugh all you tdi owners) :D Quote
HJT Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 It depends on your driving style but quoted figures are about 2-3 mpg less than the 2.0 so about 23-25 in mixed conditions. If that is a problem for you, you could always look at getting it converted to LPG. Howard Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 * Back to original question:Timing chains should be good for at least 100,000 miles, if not the life of the engine. So long as the oil is changed at recommended service intervals, you should have no worries. You should get plenty of warning if it needs attention - certain metallic noises will start to occur! There is always the chance that the chain can break, but this is much, much less than the risk of a timing belt snapping. Quote
Guest John J Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Thanks Howard, The 2-3 mpg on average over a 2.0 was what I have been told before. I can definitely live with that. Especially knowing I've got just over 170BHP under my right foot if I ever need it.  You mentioned an LPG conversion. Are you able to convert a '96 2.8 V6 with 94,000 miles on it? Also any ideas on costs? Cheers Quote
