Hi all,

My Galaxy is coming up for its 50,000 service what should i expect at least??

also my a/c needs re-gassing do you think I should mention it at service or do it separately?? (the flashing panel is getting on my nerves)

Any ideas of any good dealers near Bromley, Kent or a good a/c servicer??

Many Thanks

What oil should they use? 115/tdi Ghia Y Reg

Oil - Ford SD or any oil that meets VW spec 505.01, and make sure that they use the right stuff !

Aircon - ask them how much they will charge, are you sure it is just a re-gas that is needed? If you have been driving with low/no gas for a while, with A/C switched on, you may need new compressor too (not cheap). Try yellow pages for car aircon specialists, phone round a few and get an idea of who seems to know what they are talking about. It has also been suggested on this forum (several times now) that Tractor service places will re-gas aircon for much less than car aircon specialists.

This compressor how much are we talking about?? is there anyway i can find out if this broken??

My Galaxy is coming up to 4-5 years life so i presumed it needed re-gassing.

BTW it is not listed anywere that a/c needs re-gassing.

Low gas pressure should only cause the Air Con to be less efficient - As there is a fail safe built in that turns off the compressor clutch if there is insufficient pressure - which avoids damaging the compressor.

I know this because my wife's AIr Con stopped working and when looking at it I noticed the clutch wasn't engaging on the compressor - When I gave in and took it in the Receiver Dryer unit had a hole in it and all of the gas had escaped. Once replaced and re gassed all worked well (and still is at 8 years and 118K miles)

Still an annual check of the gas is a good idea, and as we have seen it isn't a good idea to ignore the Air Con.
