 hi

i have an V reg 1.9TDI red i, (well thats what i was told when i brought it) and thats the color of the TDI badge, but when i run insurance checks on the net and put in my regisration it tells me that my galaxy is a 90 bhp, this is not a prob as i can take it to ford and have it checked out, but if it turns out to be 90 bhp and not 110 bhp, i want it chiped, dose anyone know were i can get this done to a diesal as most chips are for petrol engines, i live in hampshire so the closer the better.

thanx craig

Have a look at www.vanaaken.com. I know of people having good results with them with TDi Peugeots and VWs

Don't believe the insurance details on their database - get the proper check done. My Jan 2001 Gal ghia tdi 115 was shown on the insurance database as a ghia-X 110 - a model which ceased production about 8 months before my car was made! I got the insurance co to change the database!

Yeah same here. My 2002 Galaxy TDi 115 Ghia was showing up as a Ghia X 90. Had to get them to fill the details manually. My previous car, a 2001 Mondeo TDi Ghia showed up as a Ghia X as well. So the databases are not to accurate.

Try van aaken as suggested by Griffiths; I think they are based on the TRL site near Crowthorne; they've been featured in a number of motoring mags; read a few good reports over the years and not seen anything bad about their work, but see other threads on this site about possible problems of "chipping" engines.

Look under "technical" section, and topic "superchips" (currently on page 4, I think).

hi :D

alls well on the galaxy front had engine confirmd as 110bhp at last thanx for the help you all gave me, if any one is interested in getting there turbo diesal chipped, try rica chip tunning none of this plug in stuff, they can get a full 30bhp more out of this engine, and for those who want a bit more of a kick in there turbo diesal i think 140bhp is enough for a galaxy dont you, if any one still knows of some one closer too hampshire as these people are close to birmingham and that 150 miles away from were i live please help with some one local,

thanx craig :D

Hi Lucky-charmer, before we got our Galaxy we were thinking of buying a Peugeot 805 90bhp on the cheap. I phoned van Aaken about the possibility of getting the power increased to 110 bhp, they said no problem and would need the car for an afternoon (can't remember exact cost, but it probably varies with engine). Churchill Insurance refused to give me a quotation on such a modified engine, so check your company will insure you if you get it chipped. Of course if you don't tell them and have an accident, you're up that creek without a paddle!

"you're up that creek without a paddle" - only if you end up in the water I guess !!

Seriously though - insurance companies differ massively with regard to their views on chipping etc. Tesco can be ok, as can Greenlight, as can London/Liverpool Victoria.

If anyway needs any advice on insurers then please drop me a line.

lucky-charmer - I've got the same engine as you in a Seat Leon, a chip makes a massive difference, mine is now quicker than my V5 which I drove previously + 50mpg instead of 30mpg.

A Galaxy 115 I chipped apparently accelerates as well when towing a caravan as it did before with nothing in tow.
