sad_git Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 The display on my climate control flashes for 10-15 seconds on start up. I know that this indicates a fault but I don't have vag.com yet to check it out. The only apparent fault is that when it is in ECON mode the air-con compressor still cuts in and out, the button doesn't seem to make any difference. I have recently fitted new compressor and drier, the system pressures are ok and the delivery temperature is within tolerance. Any ideas? Quote
sad_git Posted April 25, 2005 Author Report Posted April 25, 2005 No, ECON displays instead of AUTO but system still works with air-con. Tried turning climate off altogether today but air-con still kicks in. Managed to read codes today with vag.com came up with:- 01188 - Electrical connection between control module and magnetic clutch shorted to battery +. Have checked all wiring that is reasonably easy to get to and can't find the problem. Found that removng fuse 28 cures the problem but it also supplies wipers so cannot leave out. Suspect fault may be in fuse box but major job to find out! Quote
Jeff115 Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 Manual indicates short or open circuit in wiring or connectors from Climatronic control unit to magnetic decoupler (on side of compressor) - Check wiring and connections and/or For short to earth:- Suspect coolant / radiator fan control unit (J293) defective (renew only) Regards,J. sad_git Posted April 26, 2005 Author Report Posted April 26, 2005 Thanks for that J., disconnected coolant blower control unit and air-con still kicks in.Checked wiring to relays, control unit and compressor although wire to clutch cannot be shorted to b+ as evaporator switch is still controling compressor. Took car to my mate with autodiagnosis kit and it came up with the original code plus another one which I had cleared previously and ignored. 65535 Internal control module memory error. According to mate this means that the control unit is goosed and most likely the short to B+ is internal. Will put request on parts gateway and a few others tonight, don't fancy new one at Quote
Jeff115 Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Hi s_g,I'm quoting...DTC 65535 - possible causes Interference, electrical, from outside sourcesPoor earth connections,or poor positive connections to control unit You've covered most of these AlsoTemperature sensor in dash panel defective (can check using value from VAG-COM, Read measured value block)You'll need to interpret the value then AlsoTemperature sensor blower defective or lastly (and most costly B) )Control unit defective Quote
sad_git Posted April 28, 2005 Author Report Posted April 28, 2005 Problem Solved  Well, solved as near as damn it. Short to B+ turned out to be faulty pressure switch, although working perfectly the high press. side input from fuse 28 was shorted across to low press. side input from atc unit! Hence air con on permanently. New switch Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Display still flashes, have cleared fault codes but the internal memory error is coming back. doesn't seem to be affecting anything so I'll live with it until a cheap s/hand unit appears. you mean one of these? although it may be the wrong colour display? Quote
sad_git Posted April 28, 2005 Author Report Posted April 28, 2005 Thanks for trying but I'm afraid mine's different, the surround is curved at the top and it has dual zone control. I tried quite a few online parts finders but no joy yet, but no worries it's not that important as it still works ok. Definately won't be buying one from dealer @ Quote
Jeff115 Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Hi s_g,Glad that you got it sorted :D Here's a link to the erwin site for the Seat Heating and A/C Workshop Manual. I've been lazy and quoted from a previous  Hard copy or on-line reference only - It's a secure 'Sealed media' Adobe .pdf and you cannot copy/paste from it or print to file. I got it from the official Seat site athttps://erwin.seat.com/erWinSeat/ To get it:Register/login, click on 'Search' on LHS, follow the dropdown menus for Model, Model Year, Topic = Auxiliary Heater but other topics available are Body, Brakes, Comms. Electrical, Engine... Heating and a/c looks interesting hmmm then click Search in centre section thenclick on the encircled 'I' for the Table of Contents. QUOTE and if so is it worth haveing You'll have to pay for the pleasure but Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005  :D :D Sad_Git and Jeff115, I take it you two have some kind of formal electrical expertise or is everyone on here able to discuss like that. Most of its is Greek to me :D Oggy. Quote
Jeff115 Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 Yes, Oggy,DO YOU NOT DISMANTLE YOUR A/C EVERY WEEK-END  for the craic, like? Most of its is Greek to meYOU'D BETTER GET A TRANSLATOR, THEN Seriously though,my 'electrical expertise' at 12v is limited to DIY on previous cars and bikes. Day job is connected but on software side and at a much higher voltage :D Nowadays, I'll avoid diagnostics and repairs on the Galaxy that I don't fully understand or that require specialist tools especially where it could endanger my valuable cargo i.e. SWMBO + kids. In sad_git's case above I was purely reading the manual to analyse the DTC's for him :D as I have not had occasion yet to visit my air con for a fault. Regards,Jeff. Quote
