faded-fish Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 I've just bought a Kenwood head unit and 6 disc CD changer. Has anybody got advice on the best place to install it? My wife suggested that it might attach under the dash in the passenger footwell - not sure if it can be secured well enough there. Any pics of other owner's installs would be most appreciated. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 Why not mount it where they normally go? in the lidded storage bin in the rear quarter panel, there is a knock out ready and waiting in the base of the bin to pass the cable through  Quote
faded-fish Posted April 23, 2005 Author Report Posted April 23, 2005 Why not mount it where they normally go? in the lidded storage bin in the rear quarter panel There are precious few cubby holes in my Galaxy and I would prefer not to use that - partly because I'll probably need to remove lots of trim/carpet to feed the wires through  Quote
Guest MATT Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 partly because I'll probably need to remove lots of trim/carpet to feed the wires through  there has been talk that the wires are already there - not sure on this though when i had mine, Sony 6 cd changer, i bought it from halfords ( Quote
Guest gritrash Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 i have an after market sony 6-disc changer installed under the front passenger seat. Works well - accessible and out of view. HTH. Quote
djacks42 Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 My Blaupunkt 10-changer sits in the cubby hole under the driver seat also - frees up rear cubby. Quote
faded-fish Posted April 25, 2005 Author Report Posted April 25, 2005 gritrash & djacks42 - Did you have to remove the front seat to get the changer installed? In which case, how difficult was it and how long did it take? Quote
djacks42 Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 You shouldn't have to remove the seat at all. I just have cut up padded freezer bag to wedge it in. Leave a bit of slack in the lead so you can pull it out easy. Feed the lead out from the lhs front of the seat, across under the carpet to the door sill trim, under and across the dash into centre console. 10 min job and looks neat. Quote
Guest MATT Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 i thought there was only a few, accessible bolts to take out, and the seat would lift right out? Then you could mount the changer, using its brackets - which i assume it came with. Matt Quote
Guest gritrash Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 djacksmine is secured to the underside of the passenger seat base using cable ties. Seems pretty secure to me. Have left enough slack on the cable to allow the seat to travel to and fro on it's runners, but not too much to get in the way. It's been there for over a year now without any problems of difficulties. faded-fish Posted May 13, 2005 Author Report Posted May 13, 2005 Well I've found out that the 6 CD changer I bought doesn't work  so I've bought a 10 CD changer to replace it. This means that installation in the rear cubby hole is definitely out (unit is too big) so I've opted for fitting under the drivers seat. I have two questions... Are there any delicate items (eg brake pipes, fuel lines etc) directly under the drivers seat that I should be making sure I don't drill through? Are there any special things I should do when screwing the brackets to the floor (eg sealants)? any help most appreciated. PS - if anybody is interested in the duff 6 CD changer for spares or repair give me a shout. The changer is a Kenwood KDC-C462 and has the original lead and brackets [no screws though]. It also has the cd cartridge but this is stuck in the machine - I believe the loading motor has seized) If nobody is interested I'll be putting it up on ebay the week after next (try to recoup some costs!) Guest sufc38 Posted May 15, 2005 Report Posted May 15, 2005 Hi, Ive just fitted an 8 disk panasonic changer under the drivers seat. Just fed the cable under the carpet in the drivers fotwell behind the footrest and through the channel that the seat sliders run on ( checked really carefully that the slider doesn't snag) into the compartment under the seat, and then used one of the dome top bolts that hold the fuel tank strap on to bolt the unit down to the floor and used some really strong double sided tape with a small block of wood to level it up on the other side. I've angled it so that the unit can stay in place and just get the cartridge out. Quote
steve67car Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 just put my sat nav in put all the cables down centre column and screwed it to the cubby hole plastic lid sortedas all the cables go under the runner as theres a nice gap for them :o happy days just in time for holiday :o hope she dont break down as this is the most ive used her since buying her :o Quote
