I've just bought a Kenwood head unit and 6 disc CD changer. Has anybody got advice on the best place to install it? My wife suggested that it might attach under the dash in the passenger footwell - not sure if it can be secured well enough there. Any pics of other owner's installs would be most appreciated.

Why not mount it where they normally go? in the lidded storage bin in the rear quarter panel, there is a knock out ready and waiting in the base of the bin to pass the cable through

There are precious few cubby holes in my Galaxy and I would prefer not to use that - partly because I'll probably need to remove lots of trim/carpet to feed the wires through

i have an after market sony 6-disc changer installed under the front passenger seat. Works well - accessible and out of view. HTH.

You shouldn't have to remove the seat at all. I just have cut up padded freezer bag to wedge it in. Leave a bit of slack in the lead so you can pull it out easy. Feed the lead out from the lhs front of the seat, across under the carpet to the door sill trim, under and across the dash into centre console. 10 min job and looks neat.

i thought there was only a few, accessible bolts to take out, and the seat would lift right out? Then you could mount the changer, using its brackets - which i assume it came with.

djacks

mine is secured to the underside of the passenger seat base using cable ties. Seems pretty secure to me. Have left enough slack on the cable to allow the seat to travel to and fro on it's runners, but not too much to get in the way.

It's been there for over a year now without any problems of difficulties.

Well I've found out that the 6 CD changer I bought doesn't work  so I've bought a 10 CD changer to replace it. This means that installation in the rear cubby hole is definitely out (unit is too big) so I've opted for fitting under the drivers seat.

I have two questions...

Are there any delicate items (eg brake pipes, fuel lines etc) directly under the drivers seat that I should be making sure I don't drill through?

Are there any special things I should do when screwing the brackets to the floor (eg sealants)?

any help most appreciated.

PS - if anybody is interested in the duff 6 CD changer for spares or repair give me a shout. The changer is a Kenwood KDC-C462 and has the original lead and brackets [no screws though]. It also has the cd cartridge but this is stuck in the machine - I believe the loading motor has seized) If nobody is interested I'll be putting it up on ebay the week after next (try to recoup some costs!)

Hi,

Ive just fitted an 8 disk panasonic changer under the drivers seat.

Just fed the cable under the carpet in the drivers fotwell behind the footrest and through the channel that the seat sliders run on ( checked really carefully that the slider doesn't snag) into the compartment under the seat, and then used one of the dome top bolts that hold the fuel tank strap on to bolt the unit down to the floor and used some really strong double sided tape with a small block of wood to level it up on the other side.

I've angled it so that the unit can stay in place and just get the cartridge out.
