At 1500rpm for 10 minutes with air set to recirculate and aircon on at the lowest setting, your center face vent temperature should be checked against the chart... http://trevor.dynip.com/images/chartvent.jpg A is vent temperature and B is ambient external temperature. Your vent temperature should fall between the two lines. Quote

Masked Marauder Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 One of our drivers used full air con the other day, he did a full shift with it just coming out the two driver's side face vents, it was blowing onto the back of his hands and fingers too. At the end of the day his hands were agony, not frostbite, but his skin was dried out and cracked horribly! Why he never just set the temperature to something comfortable like 18 degrees and left it there, well only he knows. Quote

Cheers.Oggy. did you leave your car running for ten minutes at 1500rpm first though? 6 degrees vent temperature @ ambiant of 15DegC is at the top end of acceptable. Also the probe should be 2 inches (5cm) inside the vent. Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted April 21, 2005 Author Report Posted April 21, 2005 It was the run home from work so the engine varied from idle to over 1500 rpm. journey is about 15 minutes. The measurement was a bit of a bodge in that it was just with a household thermometer wired with the bulb tight to the vent. Phoned the SEAT dealer today about the cambelt and they have no record of that or the air con being serviced, so I will get in checked. Thanks for the help. Quote

Stuck my probe thermometer in the the centre vent after following the guidelines given in this thread and had a reading of 9.2C when it was 14.5C outside. Looks like I'll be following up my complaint of excessive gurgling in the evaporator (system pressure low) when it had it's 30k service a few months back..... Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted April 22, 2005 Author Report Posted April 22, 2005 I think a couple, well three!, things are important. 1) That the engine revs are at least 1500 rpm. 2) That it has been at least that for about 10 minutes. 3) That the aircon or climate unit is set to the lowest posible setting.
