Hi,

About 6000 miles ago I had the tyres changed on the front wheels.

Over the last couple of 1000 miles, the steering seems to wobble slightly, particularly around the 50-60mph speed.

I guess that I could get the tyre people to re-balance the wheels in case a weight has fallen off.

Any ideas as to what this might be if it's not the wheel balance?

Thanks, as always,

Could be a few things, the majority of which are tyre related.

Has someone bumped it up or down a kerb, or hit a pot-hole, that can damage the steel bands in the tyre and they can snap at a later date causing the tyre to go out-of-shape. Tyre cuts/nail-holes can result in the banding corroding through with the same results.

The tyres may not have been perfectly round when they were made. In the "good old days" you were always told to bring them back for re-balancing after a thousand miles or so. Suggest that you may be suffering from this type of problem (although you may have lost a balance weight); try a re-balance first to see if the problem goes away.
