Guest alecwebley Posted June 16, 2003 Report Posted June 16, 2003 I HAVE A 98 GALAXY 2.3 GHIA X,I HAVE JUST PURCHASED A PARKING SENSOR,THOUGHT IT WOULD BE EASY TO FIT MYSELF.I'M HAVING PROBLEMS CONNECTING THE SENSOR UNIT TO THE CORECT WIRES.I TRIED CONNECTING THEM TO THE SAME CLOURED WIRES THAT ACTUALLY CONNECT TO THE BULB BUT IT DOES NOT WORK.I HAVE CHECKED THE SYSTEM AND IT WORKS FINE WHEN POWERED UP.I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR WIRES ON THE REAR PASSEGER SIDE JUST BY THE ADDITIONAL POWER SOCKETS.CAN ANY BODY TELL ME WHAT COLOURED WIRES I NEED TO CONNECT THE RED AND RED/BLACK WIRES OF THE UNIT TO TO GET IT TO WORK OFF THE REVERSE GEAR SWITCH.THANKS FOR ANY HELP... PopDorset Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 Just done the same job...Don't know what year yours is, mine's 99, and the best place to make joints in the wiring is the driver's side: reason? there's a plug and socket (connector) in the wiring just below the lights. You will find it slid onto the metal work with a friction clip. It's easier to pull the connector off the metal and then undo the 2 halves to get the blue snappy connector things around the wires. OK, the colours on mine were: Switched Feed for Rev Lights: Black and red going into the connector ---> Black and blue going out of the connector. Earthing point is nearby straight to bodywork with a nut and bolt. You will also find a blank grommet, (ie one without a hole.....make a hole in it!) if you crane your neck and peer vertically down inside the skin of the vehicle rear offside quarter...Does that make sense?....if not I'll see about a digital photo for you. Now crawl under the vehicle, and on the offside rigtht about where you were with the connector there is another blind grommet. Here's the good thing...the two grommets are virtually one above the other, so get a wander light and shine it up through the holes. You should be able to see the light when you're back inside the boot peering down!!! Do this and you won't have to drill any holes!! :( Pop Quote
big_kev Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 I found when I fitted my sensors and run all the wires back to the rear passenger side by the power sockets that the supply for the reversing lights was on the rear driver side ! , bum! Had to run a temp cable accross back of car to pick up feed. One day when it is nice I will rerun all the parking sensor wires to the other side. Quote
Guest T120 Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 I have one still in the box so just a couple of questions:-Do you have to remove the bumper? How much room is at the rear of the bumper where you fit the sensor? Is there any part that is awkard to get to? Quote
PopDorset Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 T120I pays to be a little elastic especially when peering down inside the offside skin to find my grommets mentioned above...use a wander light to shine up through as detailed. On your back under the car, mine has a towbar so the foil sensor has to be well clear of that. (the size would depend on the make of towbar). Is it tricky? Yes, if I'm honest, but I was determined not to take the bumper off, so I cleaned the inside of it in situ with meths on tissues. Connecting feed wires (using those proprietary blue clicky connectors) is definitely easier with the multi-connector unclipped and pulled apart. If you need a photo for any of this...I will oblige. Quote
morticiaskeeper Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 I put my sensors on the bumper with a couple of mirror pads and found that they picked up ever stone while reversing down my sloping drive. So I then fitted them, using the pads again, as low as possible on the tailgate. The rear bumper masks any stones. The wires are taped in place around the lower lip of the tailgate and the visible led unit is mirror padded to the top of the tailgate window, where high level brake lights go. The only wire routing needed was the 2 sensor wires around the glass and a power leead through the hinge rubber Quote
Guest T120 Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Thanks you guys most helpful. My sensors you have to drill a hole in the bumper hence the question room at the back, bumper mounts etc. The instructions say about positioning with tow bars being one of the things mentioned. My positions mainly the offside one comes near to the mounting, hence the question about room at the rear of the bumper. Quote
morticiaskeeper Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 How about using the mirror pads as a temporary measure until you're sure you've got the right location for the sensors. Quote
