Brinkman Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Have just checked rear pads which were fine but the offside dust cover on the brake psiton is split. The rubber is dry so I assume that so far nothing has got past the inner seal and caused fluid to leak out. Having removed the caliper from the disc I am comfortable about dealing with this myself but has anyone else done this job? Any unforseen snags? The Gal workshop manual does not specifically say you can renew the dust cover on its own.Does the caliper piston have to be fully removed to do this? Seems to make sense to only do what you have to bearing in mind the consequences of damaging the piston. Any information on parts availability [cannot see any caliper parts on Euro Parts website and my local Seat Dealer[Kings of Portsmouth/Southampton] are generally disappointing for parts availablity.I don't know if the parts are identical to a Gal.The Alhambulance caliper certainly looks the same as the Ford Manual. Thanks folks for any advice you can offer.Mmmmmm, sorry, yes I don't know why I posted it here instead of Tech either!!!!!!!! Quote
SharanTDICarat Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 I have just noticed my rear drivers side brake binding on a bit and on inspection found that the dust seal had split to. Allowing all the winters crap to stick the piston uo,I tried cleaning it and winding it back in but it is still sticking .According to VW the seal is not availible seperatly. Euro car part are doing a complete exchange unit for Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Cant see VW saying it's not available seperately as its on their parts list as a seperate item! the numbers posted elsewhere on the forum, and according to the list it's a Girling part so try a decent auto parts shop? Quote
