Just got a great affordable in-car DVD system for the Gal, screens fit onto headrests and slimline DVD player slots into front seat back pocket. Very quick to set up and away you go on a quiet drive whilst the kids (upto 3 headphones) can watch a DVD on both screens or play one of the 25 simple games on the the other screen at the same time. Its a great way of entering the ICE without the big budget, plus the added security of not getting the things twoc-ed, it all goes into a neat bag included. All this for only

the only thing that bothers me, is that, some kind and wonderful person, may smash my highly ploished, tinted windows, for one of these monitors...

Since mine are removeable - they won't be in the car most of the time - have to watch/listen to enough of Kipper and Dora the explorer already. When parked up I tend to throw a blanket over the headrests - given the rest of toddler junk in the car it looks quite natural.

Have you got a roof mount screen vr6galaxy?

I've just bought one and was wondering if I could screw it straight to the headlining or would I need to put the adapter plate above and screw thru the headlining.

Would appreciate your help, thanx

There is a thread on this topic some where on the forum, in it are pictures of a roof mounted set up, my Galaxy has a sunroof so I mounted mine through the head lining and on to one of the head lining/sunroof support bars luckily this is just behind the front seats so it means the screen when folded down sits inbetween the head rests and doesnt block vision to much although use of the rear view mirror is not possible <_<

if you want I can dig out a couple of pictures of my unit and mail them to you

Thanks for that, looks like i will have to reinforce with plywood or similar (no s/roof).

Piccies would be great, I have sent my e-mail address to you thru the forum e-mail facility.

Cheers

Pictures sent :D I cant remember if there was a re-enforceing bar on the body shell in this region, it's been a while since I fitted mine <_< I used the cross bar supporting the head lining and sun roof and stuck in a couple of small steel plates to spread the load, also dont make round holes for the cables or screws to pass through on the head lining, just make small cuts as these can be hidden easier when you remove the unit by brushing the lining flat afterwards :D

If you have one of these removable/portable in-car DVD players, where do you put the player so that it can be left in the car permanently but out of site. I have opted for under the rear middle seat and plugged into the rear accessory 12volt sockets, but has anyone come up with a better solution ?? I remove the screens overnight, but leave all the leads in place ready for the screens plugging back in...... :D ?

jkspoff, do you mean loose on floor under middle seat, or have you made a bracket to which it is fixed ?

Its loose on the floor under middle seat, I cut out the packaging and sat it in that for protection, but a bracket would be better.

Thanks for the advice and pics vr6, fitted screen and in dash player today.

No problems other than the steel brace behind the lower din hole, had to remove it!

Will post pics sometime, only just got home and not had chance yet.

hi sad git , did you have to remove headlining to fit, and if so how easy, also was there any where to bolt to or did you make up bracket, as been thinking about one for the kids

No, didn't remove headlining, managed to lower it at B post just enough to feed wire through. Wiring routed down side of b post and door step trims, after removing front door seal, and on to back of radio area to dvd player.

The screen mounting plate is screwed to the headlining with self-tapping screws. You may prefer to use some reinforcement above but I didn't think it necessary, in my opinion the headlining is well supported and quite strong.

As i said, the biggest problem was fitting the dvd player in the lower din aperture because of the steel brace behind it. I had to remove it using a carbide burr on a high speed die grinder (very limited access).

If you need any more info let me know.
